Pretty good letter for a 9 year old. Maybe a little too good...

Notice the gratuitous product placement?
Smart kid getting the Colonel's money, at least a few buckets
Heck of letter.

C'mon, ease off on the kid - no reason to compare him to Tanny or TempeTantrumGRR Spartan wrote:45-50 years from now that kid will have gone to law school, become an internet troll and stalk other posters

Ok, in 10 years this kid will be saying its all pointless and people care too much about sports, but to win we need to change everything and keep doing it until we get it right again.Wally Fairway wrote:C'mon, ease off on the kid - no reason to compare him to Tanny or TempeTantrumGRR Spartan wrote:45-50 years from now that kid will have gone to law school, become an internet troll and stalk other posters

Kid needs some perspective on accepting mediocrity.

Kid is 9 years old and never had to live through Johnelle, Booby, Denny Stoltz, Muddy Waters etc.aualum06 wrote:Kid needs some perspective on accepting mediocrity.
I'm not going to sugarcoat it - MSU has sucked before, and I'm hoping it doesn't get that bad again

It is true, I remember a guy that had season tickets to the Red Sox that said the Francona season where they bottomed out was one of the greatest things ever. It got rid of all the Green and Pink hat fans and he said it was like the old days when you just had the die hards there again. Said the games were fun again and you could get drunk without all the rich yuppie band wagon fans around.

I think his dad is just trying to keep him competitive yet at the same time not be discouraged if he fails. There will be plenty of time for this kid to become cynical. The kids father is obviously competitive. You don’t become a doctor if you settle for things.

Not sure I'd characterize people as "bad" fans, but losing definitely gets rid of the bandwagon fans.
Sometimes 9 years olds are pretty smart though.

Re: Losing gets rid of the bad fans.
all seriousness, it was a cute letter, etc - but the fact that it seeped out to the media, social media, etc. seems a) a little self-promotional and b) makes our fan base look kind of a ridiculous. More ridiculous than we already make ourselves look.
let's say.. Oklahoma fell on hard times.. and a letter was published in the Norman Gazette by a 9 year old saying "it's okay, guys.. me and my friends at the Montessori School still love you... no matter how many games you lose".. we (along with the rest of the college football world) would probably mock it relentlessly.
(and I'm not pickin' on the kid or even his strange Dad.. I'm just saying let's not hire either of them to be on the next coaching search committee).
