Do we have a travel thread?
Wondering where you guys recommend visiting. I'm lucky to have summers off so there will be plenty of trips in my future.

Re: Do we have a travel thread?
Has anyone successfully winged it in Europe for ~2 weeks?
I have a wedding in Barcelona in mid July. Grabbed a one way ticket there for $215 and don't have much of a plan for a return date. I've done a little research and flights to other places in the EU are dirt cheap. Where should I definitely go?
General plan:
Fly to BCN
Wedding in Barcelona
Ibiza for a night
One or two of: Rome, Florence, Amsterdam, Croatia, Berlin, London, ???
Madrid
Back home

I loved Rome and London, but I'm into all that historical stuff. If you're going to party that's a bit different, but I'd say you need at least 4 nights in a city to get a real sense of it.

Got stoned at bowling so need until tomorrow.
My top places in no real order:
Rome
Amsterdam
Barcelona
Switzerland (Montruex?)
Nice/coast in france
I thought London was very meh. Just a city and rainy. Enjoy. Europe is very cool.

You can definitely do a lot in two weeks. I would recommend picking 3 from the list, spend 3ish nights at each. Fuck around in between. The trains are cool, but I like driving.

We have similar opinions. Especially London and Paris. I could do Amsterdam in 2, but I could also spend 2 weeks driving around the countryside and other cites around Holland. Â Never been to Italy or Spain, but it is our next trip.

My favorite Euro trip was driving to the D-Day beaches from England. But that doesn't fit where you are going. If anyone is ever in France or England, I can't recommend it enough.

Been to Colonge and Frankfurt for work a few times  Felt like work. Looked like home. Only highlight was there was a big Frankfurt fair going on and I got s-faced. Ended up given my last 20 euros to a street band making crazy sounds with steel bowls and drumbs.  Played the shit outta that CD till I lost it.

I’d suggest pushing it for an extra week or two. Might as well when you’re out there if you can

Also, mid July is the height of music festival season in Europe. Might want to check the schedule if you're into that sort of thing.

Good tip, thanks Heat + everyone else. Normandy would be really cool but I think I'll do that next time.

I don't travel to exotic places. I do the usual go around for someone with young kids and a ~ 15% travel job. Florida. Chicago. NY. Maybe California. Sometimes AZ. Texas.
Hey I found out something cool though. DTW guest pass. Met my wife and kids at the gate after they were out visiting her parents. Pretty funny surprise. They couldn't understand. Life Post 9/11 is so weird that it has become normal.

Not just festivals, big acts tour Europe in the summer. Pearl Jam is in Europe this summer, Foos, RATM, Metallica again IIRC. And the tickets are usually easier to get and cheaper.

Agreed. I just love the festival scene. Went to Leeds Festival in '16 and '17 and absolutely loved it. If tMrs could keep up with me, I would've went last year for Foo Fighters. Seems her festival days are over.

Re: Do we have a travel thread?
Wow, I’m gonna really lean on some of you guys in a couple years. Wife and I have traveled but just your typical boring America’s. She’s going to work three more years then we’d love to do Europe and North Africa. Heat, I’m counting on you.
Question. Will the coronavirus cut down on the European festivals this year.

Re: Do we have a travel thread?
If you're in Greece, gotta do a couple of days in Athens, plenty of sites to see on the mainland, Santorini is a must.
Croatia is great, spent a couple of weeks driving around.
Wake, take the train from Barcelona to Madrid, 200 mph, quick trip. Pick anywhere from Madrid. Can spend a month in Spain, or spend 2-3 days in a dozen places.

Ok. Going to Brisbane, AUS in the summer. Going to be there for 10 days. Talking to the wife of being there for the wedding we're going to and then maybe going to Sydney, or somewhere else. Any suggestions DENDRO?

Man, i don't know, but it is unnerving. I'm guessing they will have a bunch of information on it and how to protect yourself. A month from now we'll know more and more too. Interesting there is a press conference by Trump on it tonight. Kind of weird, but I'm guessing it's just to help with the stock market.
