Hinch had a poor roster in Arizona and got fired. He had a loaded roster in Houston, won a World Series, and got fired. He got suspended by the league for a year due to cheating. Through it all, he's a solid reputation as a good baseball mind, he has created cohesive clubhouses and tends to get out of the way and let players play. Perhaps too much with the trash can banging, one could argue.

I guess this is a good hire. It seems like Hinch really has to get out there, discuss what happened in Houston and try to put that in his past. I don't think it'll effect his relationship with the team but it's still going to hang over him as there is a giant asterisk on his accomplishments with the Astros. Right now, it's the first thing mentioned in his obituary.

The youth in the system seems ready to start contributing in Detroit. If it's still a rebuild, I don't think the team hires Hinch. So perhaps the team is ready to spend a bit, add some legitimate talent and see if the team can complete. Gardenhire was essentially playing the Ralph Houk from the 70s role. Is Hinch Sparky?!

Not so far in his past that he doesn’t cheat for us too though.
