What needs to happen for MSU to make the CFP?

Obviously, one loss doesn’t make it impossible. But, they’re going to have to run the table from here. After that....

I think you can go ahead and use a pen to put in Clemson and alabama. The third spot is more squishy, but they sure do love them some two SEC playoffs no matter how hard I rail against it. So, it comes down to the fourth spot.

- We’re going to need a notre dame loss against someone other than Clemson. A one loss notre dame is always scary because all of these people in charge love them for some reason.
- watch out for BYU. Gonna want to see them drop a game.
- the big 12 just doesn’t impress me. But I want to see chaos there. We’re gonna need some OSU losses, some K State losses, just everyone with 2 or 3.
- I hate to say it but a one loss Ohio State vs a one loss MSU is tough for us. The committee has shown they will play favorites in those scenarios. We probably are going to need OSU to lose a second game in there.

The way I see it here’s what we need to root for the rest of the way-

- the other teams in the big ten east are going to need to drop a couple of games, especially Maryland. It’d be nice if one of osu psu or um did real shitty and lost a few games in the next few weeks to clear a path
- nationally, we need general chaos. I mean usc and oregon with multiple losses each (but usc beating nd who we also need to drop a few games)
- in the sec specifically I think we’d like to see an absolute dominant Georgia railroad everyone, while all other teams look subpar and also pick up a few losses
- it’d be nice if Florida state fell on their face, no one else in the acc looks ready to step up if you ask me

Get a few of these things and the path is wide open for us

Expanding the playoff to 130 of the 133 eligible teams would help. Maybe.

I regret to inform you that as of last night I just can’t see it. There’s no way forward for msu to make the playoffs.

We can still beat Minnesota, Nebraska, Indiana, and one of psu or osu to make a bowl game! Our goals are still ahead of us

We’re going to need to see some random upsets out there, not the normal ones. Look, someone is going to win the big ten and someone is going to win the sec. They’ll be in. Fine. So too will the team that finishes second, probably. What you’re looking for is more random shit. Like Penn state losing to ucla or something. Tennessee losing to Arkansas, etc. we need chaos in that 8-12 range

Travis is spot on. This is no time for us to get cocky, but if things fall into place we are in the hunt for a national championship.
