Explosion in Downtown Nashville

Linked to a vehicle. Three injuries of unknown degree. Police say the blast was intentional.

Yikes! I hope it’s an isolated incident and the injuries aren’t too bad.

The cnn reporter just said it was an RV that exploded. Maybe this was just a mobile meth lab. Otherwise, it’s a weird place to have a bomb go off.

Not hearing much about this right now. Watching the videos and listening to the announcement before the explosion is quite haunting though.

I looked at the #nashvillebombing hashtag on Twitter this morning. Let's just say I hope most of the tweets I read were from fake accounts because

It seems this incident had exposed what I'd say is a pretty serious weakness in our communication infrastructure.

My stepdaughter lives near Chattanooga and has Verizon, but has had no cell service since yesterday. This is about 180 miles from Nashville.

One well placed blast disables communication on multiple carriers across an entire region? I'm sure China, Russia, et al are paying attention.

To be fair, if China, Russia, Iran, etc . didn't already know that vulnerability (and others), their intelligence agencies have failed miserably. But it might give second/third rate terror groups, including domestic extremists, some ideas on what can be accomplished...possibly with little organization and backing, if this does, in fact, prove to be just a suicide bomber acting on his own.

That’s the biggest takeaway for me, too. It wasn’t just cell service, either. Comms went out at an airport and hospitals, too.

This is a weirdly sophisticated operation. Going to be interesting to find out what the deal is here.
