Did that cologuard thing. Sent poop in the mail. Dr got results. My Colon is that of a 20 year old. Gentlemen, poop in a cup and send it. Much better than a colonoscopy. Just saying.

My point of this PSA is I’ve done both. Colonoscopy and cologuard. Guys opt for the cologuard if it comes back with even a trace, then get a colonoscopy. I just wanted to point out how much easier this was.

I actually like the drugs. Last time I had one, my wife put a fake tattoo of a scorpion on my ass. Everybody in the office (apparently) got to see it.

The actual colonoscopy procedure is no big deal. Now the prep............

I am not trying to be critical, but it is not as accurate as a colonoscopy.  

It will miss colon cancer 8% of the time (it is 92% accurate with 13% false positives).  It is not very effective at fining precancerous polyps.  It only finds precancerous polyps between 42% and 69% of the time (it is more accurate with larger ones).  A colonoscopy is 95% accurate.

Got an email from the founder of Cologuard, DWags. He’s a friend from undergrad. Wanted to assure me everything was perfectly fine regarding your poop, but asked me to tell you to not send in the toilet paper next time.

That last 5 seconds before you go out is awesome. I tried to hold on for as long as I could. Followed by the best nap I've had in years. Will reschedule.

That’s one reason, no doubt, but it’s a very good idea to include the warning because it’s widely known that, for colonoscopy prep, patients drink a liquid. Stupid people could easily confuse the process.

The last knee surgery I had about 3 years ago, they gave me what I’m pretty sure was a Fentanyl pop to suck on while recovering in post-op. Up until then, old school shot in the ass of Demerol had been my favorite drug. It’s easy to see why and how people get hooked on Fentanyl. It was glorious. If I’d been in my right mind and not coming out of the anesthetic, I would’ve eaten the whole thing instead of just licking it.

Probably okay to feel that way about Big Pharma, because if you’re ever diagnosed with late stage colon cancer, there’s nothing they make that will save you.

Oh, and it’s not about worrying, it’s about being pragmatic in the face of hard data which says if you catch colon cancer or precancerous polyps early, it’s an easy fix.

In all seriousness Pantry, you should get checked. It's not about worrying or anything like that. It's a simple procedure that could save your life. You eat a lot of red meat, as do I, which is linked very closely with colon cancer.

When Jamie Samuelsen died of colon cancer there were a lot of stories about screening for it and the recommended age to start and the cost to the individual and the health care system. Fact of the matter is, if everyone got scoped every year, we could almost eliminate colon cancer as a cause of death. However, it's just too expensive to do that so they developed the recommendations that they have in place.

That being said, I think our society's approach to fighting cancer is flawed. Cancer charities are a multi billion dollar a year industry focused on finding a cure. We need to focus more money on early detection and prevention.
