The ultimate debate: shoelaces over or under?

What say you?

For me under is the only way. I don’t get why anyone would go through the extra effort of passing a shoelace over the eyelet and then across. Only a preening dimwitted fancy pants would vote over.

This. I have a titanium latching system. It’s WiFi- and Bluetooth enabled, and comes with the anti-fitness option. Once it recognizes my 10,000th step of the day, the system automatically disengages so I can remove my shoes, sit down, and relax wherever I am.

Under is an easier, more natural way of lacing. Over is almost as awkward as those supporting over.

IIRC, I might’ve done over on my ice skates because it was easier to tighten them up in a hurry. Maybe. I might be misremembering. Otherwise, under.

I go with however they came from the shoe store. Looking at the last couple pairs, over.

Straight lace, so over. At least on my dress shoes and cleats (not that I've worn cleats for anything in 10 years).

For tennis shoes, just how ever they come.

JMO dress shoes look better with the under. Everything else, doesn't matter.

I was in the Army. To my knowledge, the US Army really doesn't have a standard (but I believe the USMC does.) That said, my Drill Instructor was extremely particular about it - under, in a criss cross manner, the right lace always passing over the left.

To this day - 40 years later - I still lace all of my shoes in the same manner.
