Definitely go to the top of the volcano. It's an easy drive, and you just don't get many chances in life to look down into a crater. You can even hike across or horseback across, if you have time. And definitely take some warm clothes up there. The temperature could easily be 30-40 degrees cooler, with strong winds.
Snorkeling would be the other thing, especially if you can find a day when the winds are calm.

Yeah, we took a guided kayak tour from Makenna Beach and snorkeled with the turtles out in front of Tiger Woods' house. Very cool.

Snorkel at Honolua Bay and Black Rock from shore. We rented snorkel gear from Snorkel that fucking bob's in Kaanapali for the 9 days we were there.
The road to Hana is a must. It takes a full day. We took the rental car around the back of the island to get home. The backside road is the scariest road I have ever driven on, but it is a lot different than the road to get there.
Spend time in Lahaina. Eating at the Lahaina Pizza Co and having a beer looking over the harbor was fantastic.
This place is the shit. Pricy, but you won't ever zip in a more beautiful setting on more exhilarating lines.

DM me if you have more questions.

Don't go in the water. They have some huge fucking sharks out there. Tiger sharks alone kill about 2 or 3 people a day in Hawaii. Of course the tourism board just reports those deaths as drowning or boating accidents.
Stay out of the water.
Stay out of the water.

This book is excellent. Also use the GyPSy app for the road to Hana. Basically a narrated tour for the entire trip synced with the GPS in your phone. They have tours available for many locations, but this is the only one I have used so far.

Re: Things to do in Maui
I have the Kauai version, which is an island I can tell you more about, awesome book.
As for Maui, I have a friend from Detroit there who will totally help you out, especially if you are a model in trouble with hooligans. Simply look for a red Ferrari, or go down to the bar on the beach and talk to the bartender, a good dude. He can take you by his chopper to meet my buddy at the mansion he's house sitting. Don't let the English butler get to you, he's a real smart aleck. And oh yeah, watch out for his dobermans, they are pretty intimidating until you meet them. Oh, the fun you'll have hanging with him. But be warned: you WILL get shot at, and possibly kidnapped, perhaps by goons from Thailand or missionaries from an Eastern European nation. But if that happens, don't fret, and take plenty of pics, because it will be a great story for later after my bud rescues you and hooks you up with the hot model poon he just scored.

Re: Things to do in Maui
Just returned from a week at Ka'anapali, one of the great weeks of my life.
Maui Brewing Company in Kahana
I'ao Needle
Check out some of the towns heading up to the crater, Makawao had shops and artsy places.
For sure eat at Lahaina Luna Cafe, mahi mahi tacos and Korean beef tacos are amazing. Relatively cheap, too, compared to the steep prices for everything.
Also, do a luau, recommend the Old Lahaina Luau, pricey, but worth it.

Kauai is even better than Maui, IMO. When I went there, we took a helicopter tour, and found out the pilot was originally from Michigan, and used to work as a pilot for Tom Monaghan. He even gave us a discount after finding out we were from Michigan.

I was forced to go to Kauai, did not want to. We stayed in Hanalei Bay. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth, I was blown away, and will limey buy a place there down the road.

Re: Things to do in Maui
Banana Wal pancakes at the Napili Kai resort..HO LEE FOOK!
Tell 'em I sent ya..
The little bays along the NorthWest Corner of the island are just awesome. And the drive continuing North and East around that corner of the North Shore is spectacular.
The best times we've had in Maui are just drives and pullouts where we venture on our own and have a nap, walk, etc. The touristy stuff is fun, but if you have no schedule and just explore, it is a treat everywhere..
We have a time share in Kahana that is right on the water, just a studio, very Spartan..we love it. It's just a place to sleep and is in a great location. Walking distance to a cool little local bar called Dollie's pub. I walk over there an have happy hour drinks while the Wife takes the late afternoon nap, prior to getting cleaned up to go to dinner. Awesome grinders and pizza and burgers.
Damn can January 25th get here quicker please!?
Get the banana bread from Julias while in the area.
