Right now I’d say he doesn’t. Ironically Biden’s four year term May spell the demise of Trump 24’. Non fanatical Republicans May see an avenue to oppose trump and Biden at the same time. Nominating DeSantis or someone a little less crazy might be the end result. I think they view DeSantis as Trump lite and less embarrassing.

How many Republicans would really go against Trump in the primary? I don't think Republicans want Trump to run, but I'm not sure how many will have the balls to go against him. Maybe DeathSantis, since they've been having a bit if a sissy slap fight. He's been going extreme with all of the Disney fight, Don't Say Gay bill, pro-Covid policies, etc., to get the Trump crazies on his side for 2024 because he can't count on Trump's endorsement. But I don't think the nuts choose him OVER Trump in a head to head.

DeathSantis is more dangerous than the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator because, I suspect, he's smart enough to at least know how to tie his own shoes.

What made the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator less dangerous is how fucking stupid he was. He gave the Democrats the US Senate because he told his knuckle-scraper fans in Georgia to stay home.. that the election was rigged. So they did.

That's just one example. DeathSantis is (likely) a little smarter than that.

I would not be surprised if you don't see the GOP distance itself from Trump. He still commands a large enough share of likely Republican voters to win the nomination, but he might also be increasingly seen as having outlived his usefulness.

Perhaps more important than commanding enough voters to win the nomination, his band of crazies can make the difference in many state and local races. He brought a lot of disillusioned non-voters into the Republican party, and there are races that Republicans can't win without them. The R leadership knows this, and is a big reason why they continue to kiss his ass.

I have this feeling that Pence and maybe Pompeo could paint a very ugly picture of trump if they ran. Possibly some shit you couldn’t walk back if you’re Trump. I got a feeling there might be some very very big money out there that could make sure that happens.

I do not have a good feeling about the next 20 years.

The primary reason he was publicly supported by GOP leadership was precisely his ability to bring in new voters and reinvigorate an aging and demographically exclusive party. The question is, is there another person who can keep these voters engaged? Some will naturally peel off, but is there a person that can return most of them to the polls? If so, they GOP could pivot if that person is seen as less of a headache. Right now, that seems to be DeSantis, who we all agree is more dangerous because he is far more ideological and actually competent, disciplined, and organized. If no such person exists, yes, it will likely be Trump again. It still might be Trump if GOP leadership calculates he brings the greatest electoral benefits.

DeSantis is the far bigger threat for the reasons stated earlier. All he needs is to keep MAGAts engaged enough to vote for him once. After that, Connies will rewrite rules and laws and Karl Rove’s wet dream of a permanent Republican majority will be a reality.

As for Donnie: What I hope happens is either the AG or Georgia prosecutors go to Trump and give him a couple of options. The first is he agrees to never run for any office ever again, and to once and for all announce to his cult members that Biden won fair & square with no cheating whatsoever. And then he has to stop talking. No tweets, no faxes, no public or private speaking engagements. He either agrees to all of that or he faces option #2, which is he’ll face charges both in the state and federal systems.
tbh, Donnie’s mental illness won’t let him agree to option 1, so I imagine this shit will continue for awhile longer, which will piss off the non-Trump wing of the party.

I feel dirty for thinking Trump may be a better option than Desantis. He dumb enough to step on his dick 50% of the time where Desantis is  maniacal enough to cover his tracks. Of course either option is a disaster. Part of me wonders if Desantis is to far right and “eloquent” enough to articulate it that it may scare the center. Trump has that “he’s harmlessly ignorant and bigoted” enough to sort of dismiss it aura about him. Like “yeah, he’s a fuck up but someone will fix it.”

Can’t help but think the August 8 raid on Trump’s Mar-a-laga residence could have precipitated by something(s) that were discovered in Alex Jones’ phone that his lawyer voluntarily handed over to the attorney representing parents of Sandy Hook shooting victims.

It’s being reported that FoxNews Tucker Carlson is less than pleased that the contents of Jones’ mobile phone have been turned over to the January 6 committee.

Does it break down to something so basic as mid term results?  If the recapture the house (guaranteed) and the senate, he runs? If they don’t take the senate he doesn’t. Retaking both chambers guarantees a blood bath of retribution if he can win the general.
