Roughly anything below 94 is southern Michigan.

"8 Mile", also known as "Baseline" is the East to West surveying line used for the original land survey of the state, just as Meridian Road is the original South to North surveying line.

Southern Michigan is defiantly centered on it, though it goes further North than that, maybe to a line going through Leslie.

Then "Mid-Michigan" begins and goes up to about Clare, where Up North begins.

West Michigan is West of Meridian, East Michigan is East of that.

The "Thumb" is North of I-69 and East of Flint.

The "UP" is where all the Billy Goats Gruff live.

Look at Google maps... draw a line from the northern most part around metro Detroit where the color changes from green to white....

Between there and Clare is mid michigan unless you are within 40 min of Lake Michigan, then you are west Mi... or you are a crazy asshole, then you are probably in the thumb.
