2022 MSU FB Post Mortem Analysis
Rushing yards
vs Washington 42 yards
vs Minnesota 38 yards
vs Maryland 100 yards
vs Ohio State 7 yards
vs Wisconsin 99 yards
vs Michigan 37 yards
vs Illinois 112 yards
vs Rutgers 197 Yards
vs Indiana 242 Yards
vs PSU 25 yards
Against the good teams (I don't consider ILL good) we absolutely stunk. Need to improve the OL and the run game for 2023. Improving the run game will help keep the D off the field and improve their play. The road towards improving is going to take talent upgrades at a lot of positions but improving the run will improve the D.

Line of scrimmage is the key for sure.
A good OL can turn an average QB into a good QB. And a good DL can make the secondary shine.

Penn State is #8 in the CFP. They're not that much better than us. Fill some holes and we're back in business.

Going to do an analysis of the OL once I get a spare minute.
IMO I agree with your take the Big Ten is a weak conference and I think if Mel can reestablish the run game I see us getting back in the 9-10 win zone again.

The first key to a better running game is better running backs, and Tucker is trying to do that every year.
The second key is better blocking. MSU has improved its run blocking with Tucker, such as receivers holding their blocks longer downfield, and has better line blocking, but not the running backs to use it, except for Walker, yet.
