What is the difference between the MAGA cult and the UM cult?
They both have "dear leaders" in Trump and Harbaugh.
The dear leaders can do and say whatever they want, including taunting their followers, without fear of internal criticism. Trump can say he loves the poorly educated, and Harbaugh can explicitly say he is done flirting with the NFL, only to do it again 12 months later without anybody pointing out his dishonesty.
External criticism is superficial, and honest journalism is sacrificed for journalism that generates clicks, views, etc. Anybody who attempts fair coverage is called a hack and gets little attention anyway.
They never lose. When they do lose, it is because they were cheated.
They are always the victim. No matter how much they are favored in the press or how much power they command, they are always the victims of others.
They say the rules are important but never follow them because rules are for other people, and their followers make endless excuses why it's "different." Harbaugh breaks some minor NCAA rules and makes it worse by lying, but that is fine according to the cult. The cult believes he is standing up to the NCAA.
The followers would never be accepted by cult leadership outside of the cult; cult leadership has contempt for its followers. Do you think the elitists at UM would socialize with what they call the "non-affiliated fans" of working-class origins? They want those fans to fork over their money and nothing more. Do you think Trump is going to hang out in Mio?
The fans are obsessed, especially the ones who are among the "non-affiliated." Their entire identity is wrapped up in something they have no meaningful affiliation with and its the only thing they can talk about. Ask them about the weather and they will talk about the latest Democrat scam or start reminiscing about Charles Woodson and days gone by.
I don't know, it's the same thing to me. I am not even sure the UM cult is any less dangerous. And no, after the first point, the same stops being true about Izzo.

Not much. Even to the point where dear leaders hired their kids to positions they aren’t qualified for.

I think there’s a little nuance there in that harbaugh is part of the trump cult and models his own personal cult after the motherships cult. As in, they aren’t different but because one is a subsidiary of the other by design.
