Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter
Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter
Any odds of them dying in the same month?
Within 6 months or a year of each other?

Sort of expected someone would go here.
Rule number 1 - People die.
Rule number 2 - we can't change Rule number 1
I was looking at it as sort of romantic.

Re: Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter
My top story today is that James Earl Carter is still not dead.
It is amazing to me how our society seems to remember him as a president when in so many cases, if you look back, he was right, and as a society we just didn't listen.
What if, in addition to what you have pointed out DWags, we had also taken his lead on global warming, fossil fuel use and dependence on foreign oil? Where would the US (or the rest of the world) be if we had taken the lead THEN on what could have been the Boomers' moonshot of sustainable energy development. What would the geopolitical and economic situation be today if middle eastern or Russian oil were feedstocks for pharmaceutical and material synthesis instead of primarily as a source for combustion.
James Carter wrote: "In the year 2000 this solar water heater behind me, which is being dedicated today, will still be here supplying cheap, efficient energy…. A generation from now, this solar heater can either be a curiosity, a museum piece, an example of a road not taken or it can be just a small part of one of the greatest and most exciting adventures ever undertaken by the American people."
Scientific American wrote:By 1986, the Reagan administration had gutted the research and development budgets for renewable energy at the then-fledgling U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) and eliminated tax breaks for the deployment of wind turbines and solar technologies—recommitting the nation to reliance on cheap but polluting fossil fuels, often from foreign suppliers. "The Department of Energy has a multibillion-dollar budget, in excess of $10 billion," Reagan said during an election debate with Carter, justifying his opposition to the latter's energy policies. "It hasn't produced a quart of oil or a lump of coal or anything else in the line of energy."
And in 1986 the Reagan administration quietly dismantled the White House solar panel installation while resurfacing the roof. "Hey! That system is working. Why don't you keep it?" recalls mechanical engineer Fred Morse, now of Abengoa Solar, who helped install the original solar panels as director of the solar energy program during the Carter years and then watched as they were dismantled during his tenure in the same job under Reagan. "Hey! This whole [renewable] R&D program is working, why don't you keep it?"

But in the end good will always prevail...is what I call the Hope Fallacy. The belief that the ultimate outcome will be "good" when in fact there is no "end" until the collapse of the species or the actual end of the world.

FWIW the GDP in his one term was better than Reagan's, and he didn't commit treason like Nixon, Reagan & GHW Bush did.

edit - after years on TOB, specifically Wells, I have done my best to hold back from TOB behavior, for the first year or so on this board I did my best to be polite and to understand what I call the zitgist of this board.
I still try to be as factual as years of TOB reflexes allow, and will continue to try to achieve that goal.

Thanks for your understanding.
FWIW Carter was under rated & might have won without Kennedy coming at him in the primaries.
