4th shooting this week, the one on Saturday is now a murder

http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20140822/NEWS01/308220053/Lansing-man-shot-Thursday-night-city-s-fourth-victim-six-days
A 54-year-old Lansing man shot in the buttocks Thursday night as he tried to escape a gunman is the victim of the city’s fourth shooting in the past six days.

The incident -- the ninth involving gunfire since Saturday -- took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the 2500 block of Reo Road on the city’s southwest side. The victim had been sitting on the porch when the gunman approached and opened fire with a handgun, said Lansing police spokesman Robert Merritt. The shooter fled on foot.

http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20140821/NEWS01/308210052/Lansing-teen-shot-Saturday-dies-mother-seeks-witnesses
The mother of a teenage boy who died Thursday after being shot five days earlier asked for the violence to stop.

“No retaliation is necessary,” Sheri Pruitt said at a news conference. “It’s unnecessary. We’re already suffering enough.”

Her son, 17-year-old Richard Pruitt, was taken off life support early Thursday. He had been on life support since Saturday morning when he was shot once in the face at the family’s townhouse in the 5800 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The gunshot came from outside the townhouse and Pruitt was targeted, police said.

Chicago isn't even in the top 10 in homicide rate.

Haven't lived there in over 15 years, seemed reasonably safe back then.

Muskegon Heights is now more dangerous than Flint. It trails only Detroit in terms of violent crimes per capita.

Since April, the city of 10,000 has had 7 homicides. The victims are all teenagers (five 17 year olds, and two 14 year olds).

Community leaders say that it's due to increased gang activity, turf wars and retaliation for previous killings.

Something has to change

Generally speaking, Lansing usually has about 9-14 murders/year. It's been that way for 20+ years.

Lansing is becoming a giant section 8 housing complex with people buying up all the $20,000 homes and turning them into government subsidized housing. The problems are only going to get worse.

Well then it's time to militarize the police and instruct them to shoot first ask questions later.

What police? All they do is write speeding tickets. LPD won't even chase criminals anymore because of potential liability. Eaton and Ingham County police are forced to chase them down while LPD watches.

Good, my sister in law just got killed by an asshole running from the police. I hope the police department ends up paying millions to her estate.

Good that the LPD won't engage in high speed chases. The asshole that hit my sister in law was doing over 100 mph and running from the DEA. The transmission from his car was embedded in a tree and the engine block was found over 500 feet away from the impact.
