They had a 70,000 and then 100,000 seat stadium. MSU's was enlarged to 51,000 in 1948
From 1916-1948, MSU played 2 home games. (1924 and 1948).
After 1948, MSU ( even though in the Big Ten) then got 1 home game every 5 years until 1959 when the stadium was enlarged to 76,000. The 5/1 Bullshit had been justified by the 100,000+ seats at SCum and in fact, in the days before TV- there was some justification for that.

As a cools story, Bro Story- a good friend's dad played on the 1934-1937 teams and was very proud that they beat SCum's ass 4 times in a row in Ann Arbor. They resented the fact that the arrogant overpaid bastards refused to play them in EL- and at that time it was that they would NEVER play in EL. NEVER.
