Wind chimes: Yay or Nay?
My elderly neighbor has had some god-awful wind chimes in her backyard for years. They sounded turrible--like a bunch of cut up old license plates clanking together non-stop night and day.
Recently, she got new chimes, and these are much bigger and far better sounding. I wasn't happy when I first saw them, but they're a deep, resonant, melodious chorus of tones, and they're not too bad at all.
Until now, I've been extremely anti-chimes, but these are kind of relaxing to listen to when I'm in the backyard cleaning up pieces of squirrel and mourning dove carcass and skin left by the hawk that just had a meal.
What say you? Please chime in.

I went after birds on wires with my Red Ryder. In hindsight, not cool.

I've been waiting for that one. She's about 80. Imagine a female cryptkeeper.

Can't stand the damn things. Set them up in the middle of your 10+ acres for your own private weird enjoyment if you like. They are irritating as fu<kancientspartan wrote:Wind chimes = noise pollution.

You might want to put them away for the next 12 hours or so if you're in SE Michigan.

House no. Cottage I have the MSU football helmet I grab from the shed and hang up by the tree by the fire pit as soon as I get there. Cottages can be tacky I guess. I'm not saying my football helmet wind chimes are tacky, but there it is, every time I'm there.

It's already pretty crazy here in EL. I figure this wind will cause a few birds to lose control, go into tailspins, then hit the ground at high rates of speed.
I'll collect the dead and use their hollow bones to make wind chimes.

Windy as fuck up here in the NOC. Just pulled a downed tree out of the road in our sub. Waiting for a few more to snap off in my backyard.

Re: Wind chimes: Yay or Nay?
Aye. Good book. Read it 30 years or so ago.
The writing, though, is better than Fleming’s simple prose; the original blurbs heralded Mykel as the new Ludlum, and The Windchime Legacy certainly has a Ludlum feel to it—not just from the title, but from the writing style and plotting as well. It also foreshadows later techno-thriller writers like Clancy and Crichton, blending near-future technology with contemporary issues. The novel starts off more as a pure Cold War spy thriller, but later on the conspiracy begins to take shape, and as Justin is drawn further into the confidence of SENTINEL’s leadership he begins to learn much about this powerful technology, and the novel takes the shape of a techno-thriller. There’s a lot of good plotting in the novel; it binds together three main plots—the duality of a defective Soviet spy and a defective American programmer with a looming Nazi plot, which the novel foreshadows well with the journal entries that introduce each chapter. There’s enough here for three novels, and I suspect had it be published a decade earlier it may well have been a set of slim paperbacks.
