What would happen if the movie "The Purge" happened in real life?

All this purging, culling, and fucking on here got me thinking..

What would happen if the idea in the movie, "The Purge" made it over to real life? For people that haven't seen the movie it is basically like 12 hours of no laws, no emergency services, etc. The idea of it is to let people get their anger, violence, and shit out in this 1 night a year resulting in lower overall crime, less unemployment, and a better country. So the people in the movie go out into the night with guns, knives, and what other violent shit they can get their hands on, and kill.

Could it ever be implemented? What would happen if it did? How long would it last before the people fought back and said fuck this?

Stupid premise is stupid. What a horrible idea for a movie.

Is the second one worth watching? I caught the first one on TV the other day and thought the premise and baddies were great, but the plot failed completely and turned into and a shitty action movie very quickly.

Hundred of thousands of injuries.
Billions of dollars of medical debt incurred from those injuries.
Billions of dollars in property damage/loss.
Mass damage in critical infrastructure.
Millions left homeless.

Millions of jobs lost.
Total collapse of the stock market and economy.
Further division of the races.
Lingering mass riots lasting for months.
Inevitable invasion leading to a World War.
