I personally like this strategic loss by Izzo. He did this some years ago with Anderson and that crew by benching them in the BTT. They then went to the final four.

Who did he bench? I had it on my 4th TV and was barely following....

All I noticed was that Forbes went mental and missed about 6 wide open 3s, which probably could never happen again in a hundred years.

OTPT, the problem is the game has changed with the one and done era. These guys have a sky high market value and the college compensation model can't compete with what these guys are worth.

These players want to go to the pros in 6 months and they don't want to be held accountable for grades/academics. The also want to be compensated as much as possible whether it means funneling cash to their middle men through the camps, or your usual cash hand shakes, bag men deposits or suspect loans for new houses/cars. I feel like Izzo has failed to adjust to the new era of college basketball.

The Izzo model of college hoops worked really well when the one and dones went straight to the pros, because he could develop talent over 3-4 years to compete on the national level. That model won't be very successful against schools that have players that can play above the rim or hit a 3ptr like it's a lay up.

As to what steveschneider was talking about, Izzo alone cannot make the adjustment. Do you seriously think that type of approach is something that does not go beyond the basketball court, and would involve only the basketball staff?

The other problem is the days of hand checking and putting on the football pads and being a tough guy bball team are over. Izzos half court offense blows and he's handicapped in the era of less physical defense.

Gotta recruit the one and dones and improve the offense.

I'm not interested in that approach, personally. It would greatly diminish my opinion of Izzo. I'd rather be best/among the best at the non Kentuckys than go that route. You'll understand when you're older.
