I didn't either. Mostly because I didn't even know who coached the Bills.

Buffalo is in a bad spot. They have no good options at QB in 2015 and no first round pick. Unless they sign somebody, it would be back to EJ Manuel. Maybe he is getting out before an inevitable firing this time next year.

Why not? He gets to keep his 2015 Buffalo pay of $4M and make $$ from his new job.
No offset on his pay.
Probably with the Jets.

Report: Mutual interest between Jets, Marrone
Talk about sticking a knife in your former employer's throat -- they'd be division rivals, meeting twice a year.

Oh yeah, it would spice up the rivalry. I couldn't believe there was no offset language in contract. So in reality he'd be leaving $4M on the table to stay with the Bills.

Re: Doug Marrone Opts to Leave Bills
Fine by me. He hired great DCs, but he was too loyal to that shitty OC in Hackett.
Word is that he wanted an extension for him and his assistants, and the Pegulas wanted to see him build off of this year before giving him one, so he exercised the opt-out clause triggered by the ownership change.
Bill Polian is supposedly coming back to Buffalo to be president of football operations, and the GM is pretty good aside from drafting EJ Manuel. I think the Bills don't have an amazing future, but I think they'll be okay. Bill Cowher is also in Buffalo right now, so if Pegula can convince him to become a coach or consultant, then that's even better.
Really like the Pegulas running the show in Buffalo. I've been a fan of what they've done to the Sabres and I think they'll be an upgrade over Ralph Wilson as Bills owners.

Bills deny Redskins permission to interview Schwartz for open DC position. So he is definitely in the mix to make a return as a HC.

It sounds like Marrone really stuck itto the Bills on his way out the door, too.
Let's cut right to the chase: He took the money and ran. And then he apparently spit on the organization on the way out the door, reportedly speaking to Bill Polian and telling him the franchise was in disrepair, which seems to have dissuaded Polian from rejoining the Bills.

If I was Marrone, I would have been pissed, too. It was a dumb move.

I hated the trade. He wasn't worth that price and now they don't have a first round pick to work with this year.Turtleneck wrote:

In most cases, trading up is not worth the risk. The costs usually outweigh the benefits. The Bills are learning about that right now. Watkins is great, but not giving up a first round pick great. The Bills are screwed on offense next year. They have no QB, a mediocre OL, inconsistent RBs, and no first round pick to help improve any of these problem.
