Re: 288,000 Jobs Added in April--Unemployment Down to 6.3%
Start here: The number of jobs rose by 288,000, but the number of Americans who are employed fell by 73,000. How is that possible? The two numbers are based on separate surveys, one of businesses (which gives us the number of “nonfarm jobs” added or lost each month) and one of households (which gives us the number of people who are employed and unemployed). Theoretically, it’s possible for one to rise and the other to fall, because one person can have multiple jobs. But more often, when the two surveys diverge, it’s the result of measurement error.

Lol at any numbers put out by this administration. Economy still sucks and its not debatable. Until we get an administration that doesn't live in theory and is willing to let business flourish we will be stagnant. That's a fact, Jack.

Not to get sucked into a political debate because **** politics but you do realize that your experience means nothing as it compared to the entire overall economy? Things may be great. Things may be terrible. One dude being unable to find work is a sign of neither.Keith Stone wrote:I'm currently looking for a new job, can't find shit. I don't trust these numbers.

Yeah, keeping interest rates at historic lows with the Fed printing 80 billion each month has made the DOW do well. In reality, you want to the DOW to be doing well because company's are expanding, we are having good economic growth, and people are making more money. None of that is true. This is why the Fed hasn't stopped QE (look it up) and have to artificially keep interest rates at all time lows.
This is why you are called a sheep, but most people in this country are one way or another so don't feel so bad.

You realize for companies to expand they need sales and for them to have sales customers need money... and for customers to have money they need jobs and raises... but all the money is staying at the top.
So essentially, until the Reagan tax structure is reversed... this is what we have.
But since the conservative court allows the wealthy to purchase influence out in the open... this shit aint changing anytime soon.
Enjoy the second gilded age, you voted for it!

This is the scary part... saving are gone for 90% of the country. No where left to go. Shits gunna get worse before it gets better.
US has historically low tax rates and Koch brothers still manage to create the "TEA party" and have 30% of the country vote against their own financial interests... to the point they will shut the doors rather than bump the top rates to force money down the income ladder. We FKED.

what's wrong with the top 1% growing? you take them out of the equation and others don't automatically grow. it's not a zero sum situation here.
the problem with obama is that his policies have hurt the poor and the middle class. rather than worrying about the top 1%, we need to implement policies that help the poor and middle class regardless of how much it helps the top 1%.

Yeah, but instead of talking about his miserable policies that have crippled the middle and lower classes, it's just so much easier to point the finger at the 1% with a GET EM!!! type attitude.
If you look at unemployment rates among minorities and household incomes for the middle and lower class, they are beyond abysmal under Obama. You know what the most ironic thing is though? The liberals can only champion how well the DOW is doing (due to the Fed), but that only increases wealth inequality. You seriously can't make up the spin coming from the left these days. Obama's policies have killed the middle/lower class, yet all we her about is some old white dude with cancer who's a racist. And we wonder why our country has become an embarrassment.

Pre 1980, the tax structure was such that the money was forced to the 99% or else it was taxed at a stupid rate. That is why there were fully funded pensions and people could afford a house, two cars, college for the kids, and a place up north on a single income. Now, there is no inducement for the top to "trickle down" the wealth.
Plutocracy.

So why can't we create NEW good paying jobs for the middle class?
We had a strong middle class half century ago because you could graduate high school and start a labor job that could afford you a solid middle class lifestyle. Long gone are the days of a 20 year old working labor for most of his life and being able to afford a house and two kids. People didn't adapt with the times, specifically the unions who's greed cost a lot of people.
Instead of bashing the 1%, why don't you focus on how to bring up everyone else? Wealth isn't a finite pie. We aren't creating any new good paying jobs today because we have a hostile business environment, whacked out corporate taxes that have led to companies and manufacturing fleeing our country, and anti-economic growth policies in place.
The energy boom in this country that Obama hasn't let go, would develop trillions of dollars (yes, trillions) in new wealth and lead to really good paying jobs for the average joe. We just have a POTUS who couldn't run a lemonade stand profitably in charge.
In 2016, we as a country need a pro growth POTUS who is willing to let the private sector roar.

This problem started with Reagan and was perpetuated by Clinton and W. Obama hasn't had a economic policy of his own to take credit/blame for. Came in after W's depression/stimulus, then the tea party closed down the govt anytime tax rates are even discussed.
Why the hell do you think the TEA party hates Obamacare so much? All arguments are irrelevant until you follow the money. The ACA is written to tax the wealthy to pay for the subsidies of the poor. Koch's created the TEA party to lower their (historically low) taxes PERIOD. Cause their daddy worked hard to make money off the nazis. You think any of the dbags with the "dont tread on me" bumper stickers know where their beloved movement was created and what it was created for? I get that they are pissed. But watching "American's for Prosperity" commercials during Dancing with the stars doesn't make one an informed citizen.

We will agree to disagree. I believe in individual liberty, free markets, and limited gov't as the means to ensuring a strong country. You believe in taxing the rich and big gov't as way to prosperity.
All I can tell you is you are wrong and harboring resentment towards those more successful than you doesn't do anyone any good. I remember the days when we would see someone with more wealth and say 'gee, I want to be like him!' Nowadays, we have a major political party who's strategy is to villify and slander successful people (but only those who disagree with them, not the hypocrites in Hollywood, etc. Only the rich on the 'other' side.) Personally, spreading hate and resentment doesn't seem like a good strategy. But it works, because people who are failures in life or don't make money can feel good about themselves because a politician told them it's the rich that put them in their lot.

This is coming from the same dude that said that "Liberals only care about the death of innocent children but want scumbags like this to be alive" in the failed execution thread on RCMB. That was before it went to Wells.
What a joke

Also all I've read in this thread from Cons pretty much is a bunch of spin and excuse-making. Seems like Obama's economic policies are working. Spin away, great news for America today.

I really don't have resentment toward self-made rich people. I know I wont ever be rich and I accepted that long ago. I really am not in favor of "big govt" either. Self-made rich who had the big idea and/or worked their way to success should be held in a certain regard, we are in America after all.
The peeps that get vilified are the entitled silver spoon inherited 1%ers that use their wealth to purchase the democracy/capitalism out from under the rest of us. (at least that is my assertion)
Unchecked capitalism inherently leads to plutocracy. The things that kept that in check after the great depression (govt regulations promoting competition, top tax rates, inheritance taxes) have all gone away....

This thread is 10x better than any Wells thread. No personal attacks, solid discussion. Just some reasonable people with some differences.
I just want to point out though that top tax rates are lower than they have been, but there are numerous tax deductions that the rich can't use compared to 20 or 30 years ago. Go look up what used to be write offs. Instead of looking at the rate, look at the overall % of federal taxes paid by the top.
