Indiana lands $53.6 million deal with adidas
Adidas will pay the Hoosiers $53.6 million through 2024, or $6.7 million a year, up a whopping 81% from the prior deal it had with Indiana.
Only the University of Michigan and UCLA have bigger deals, according to the Portland Business Journal's database, which tracks athletic contracts at 85 universities.

Hollis really messed up by agreeing to that $34 million, 10-year deal with Nike early.

When I read this yesterday I wondered if Adidas is paying a premium just to have someone wearing their brand.

So does Indiana, but they got $20 million more in an 8-year deal than we got for a 10-year deal.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:...and Adidas still sucks!

I think Moose's point was that IU got a better deal with Adidas than we did with Nike.
As much as I hate it, more $ gives you the ability to be better in this current college athletic landscape.

Funny, back in the 90's UofM students protested Nike over the poor treatment in sweatshops and got the school to drop the brand. Now they are jizzin them selves over getting the Jordan Brand.

I think it is an alternate, but not sure. It came from the Twitter account of the Kalamazoo Gazette's WMU beat writer. I started following WMU a bit more since they are on the schedule.
So odd that they are the Broncos, but have oars and other RTB images all over the place. It's like WMU and GVSU are merging into one athletic department.

that said, it's hard to beat Vans. Mainly I wear boots pretty much every day of the year - but a good alternative is a pair of vans periodically. Keeps 'em guessing.

Wonder if Nike pays Izzo, Dantonio (maybe Merchant too) on separate deals while IU gets coaches money and distrubtes it themselves.

This year was a great time to get a large apparel deal, but for some reason our AD made a deal last year too early when the market wasn't as good.

Yeah, I think Hollis jumped the gun a bit. Our value would have been sky-high after the combination of a top 5 finish in football and going to the Final Four in basketball.
No matter, because schools like Ohio State are in the same boat as us...when is our deal up?

MSU's new Nike contract was signed in July 2014 and will end in July 2024. That replaced the prior deal that was set to expire in 2016.HT wrote:Giant Moose wrote:

I'm glad we are a Nike school over an adidas school but MSU getting $20 million less than IU is just plain ridiculous.

And yet another deal proving that we should have held out for either less years or more dollars.
NC State signs $38 million over 6 years extension with addias.

Landscape for Adidas has changed a lot. umaa went back to Nike. Tennessee went back to Nike, ND switched to UnderArmor.
I agree with Floyd. Adidas is scrambling and paying more because UnderArmor has gotten more active and Nike is going after schools who Adidas captured when they entered that part of the market. At the same time Adidas has lost the NFL uniforms.
Its too bad MSU can't take advantage of Giant Moose and his 20/20 hindsight.

Re: Indiana lands $53.6 million deal with adidas
20/20 hindsight? I would have told Hollis in July 2014 to wait to sign a deal to see where the landscape was closer to when the contract was up. It was clear Under Armour desperately wanted to expand and I would have used that leverage to get a better deal with Nike or walked to Under Armour. Hollis screwed that up royally when so many other ADs didn't.GRR Spartan wrote:Landscape for Adidas has changed a lot. umaa went back to Nike. Tennessee went back to Nike, ND switched to UnderArmor.
