Big-game Spartans flexing, waiting for next big game: Ohio State

EAST LANSING, Mich. — They were going more than 100,000 strong down the pike earlier in the day, a celebration of what could be in the land of the lost.
Meanwhile, back where college football is king in this state, they took a big turn toward playing games that matter on New Year’s Eve, making a loud and clear statement that will reverberate into November.

The next time a team does what Michigan State has done in big games since 2013 — beat Ohio State for the Big Ten title, beat Stanford in the Rose Bowl, beat Baylor in the Cotton Bowl, beat Oregon — will be the first time.
Not Ohio State, not Alabama. Not TCU or Oregon or Florida State. Since 2013, none of those teams have a better resume — and results — in big games like Michigan State.

The Go Green Go White chant was the loudest that I've ever heard from the comfort of my couch. Everybody in the administration involved in coordinating and communicating that stripe out deserves a beer. I'm still in awe that fans followed direction and pulled it off.

■Tidbits: MSU won its 17th straight home opener, dating to 1999 and ranking third nationally. The Spartans have won eight of their past 10 night games at home, and they are now 3-5 when ESPN's "GameDay" is in town and 5-6 overall when "GameDay" is at their game. … Oregon's 123 yards rushing was its lowest output on the ground since a 2013 loss to Stanford. … Connor Cook's 25th win puts him two behind Kirk Cousins for tops in school history, and Cook is just 13 yards behind Drew Stanton (6,524) for No. 3 on the school's all-time list. Think the big thing was the bookstore was insane, never saw a line that big for any game and they had a ton of $5 clearance shirts

They only show the top four. For instance Lyles and Lang both had 1 catch, yet they don't show up on this sheet. I'm sure the same thing with the rushing.

Last night reminded me of the crowd toward the end of the Rose Bowl. It was so fucking loud and pumped the entire game. What a great atmosphere, I'm was fortunate to be able to attend the game.
