Heisman Rant : Why No Fournette?

Most of the year, Fournette was a lock to be a finalist tonight. ESPN and everybody else said he was a man among boys and the best RB is CFB. However, he is not in NYC for the Heisman ceremony. Why?

Fournette got completely shutdown by Alabama and rushed for a mere 30 yards. The next week he managed 91 yards on 19 carries against Arkansas. These were the onIy two games where Fournette did not rush for at least 100 yards. While he did not rush for 100 yards against Arkansas, he did average 4.8 yards per carry. So he is being punished for one bad game? A player that was a lock is removed from contention for one bad game?

McCaffrey, who is a finalist, rushed for more yards. But he also had more carries and a lower average yards per carry than Fournette. His 5.8 yards per carry is impressive but short of Fournette's 6.4 yards per carry. Like Fournette, McCaffrey did not perform well in every game. In the first two games of the season, he rushed for 66 and 58 yards. In the first game he did average 5.5 yards per carry but his team lost. In the second game of the season, a win against Central Florida, he averaged less than 3 yards per carry. He also rushed for fewer than 100 yards against Notre Dame. McCaffrety is more of a passing target than Fournette and had 540 yards receiving compared to Fournette's 210. Is that really enough to keeo Fournette off the stage as what everybody said was the best RB in CFB for 8-9 weeks?

Personally, this is not really about Fournette vs. McCaffrey as much as it is about the Heisman being a joke. I can't remember the last time I watched the ceremony. They only want to give the award to skill players and they cannot event get that right most of the time. As I said at the start, all year long it was Fournette, Fournette, Fournette. One bad game and it is as if he was never in contention for a trip to NYC. Ok, pointless rant over.

I am also tired of this "when you lost" BS. If Clemson would have lost to UNC, they would have been out. Iowa is out. But Oklahoma is in because they lost in September. Even though they lost to a shit team while Iowa came to play against an 11-1 team, Oklahoma is in. I don't care when a team losses. It is more about who you lose to than when you lose.
