Spring is coming within 2-3 days and then summer will be upon us.

I thought a general thread for outdoors activities might be good.

I got the ATV fired up this morning and took the grandson for a little spin, it's still a bit nippy for riding though.

Ready to start fishing as soon as it warms up which is supposed to be this weekend. They're predicting 70-75 on Saturday and Sunday.

Fishing on the dam pond -

I imagine the first step is to get a fly rod/reel... But that's second hand information.

Can't wait to get some backpacking in this year. My first trip is set for the end of May for 4 nights in the McCormick wilderness of the muhfuckin UP.

I participate in outdoor activities year around.. I'm actually kinda bummed that summer is coming, as I prefer winter outdoor activities.

XC skiing, snow-shoeing.. I love winter running - actually my favorite time of year to run.

I always hope we get enough snow to do a lot of shoveling, as well. When I clear our driveway, I start on the neighbor's driveways.. The outdoors thread 502811600 - I get bored quickly and don't sit still very well.

I was told you guys are known for your rivers/streams as opposed to lakes. What do I know, though.

Fly fishing is pretty fun. It seems a little intimidating at first but it's easier once you get your cast down. Some people hate it, others will only fish by fly.

Keep your pole in your pants until Friday/Saturday night... Then bury it.

I don't really have time for outdoor activities of the sort you're talking about LG but I like kayaking. I wish I could do that more. Biking doesn't really count I don't think but I like biking, I wish it were easier to get to trails from my house (as in, I didn't have to drive somewhere).

Get your facts straight.

Up north = north of traveling US 10 from Ludington to Scottville, taking 31 north to Manistee, then 55 east to Cadillac, north on 131 to 72 and east to Grayling, hopping on 75 south to Roscommon and taking 18 northeast back to 72 east to 65, and finally east on 32 to Alpena. That is up north. Clare is not up north.

Also, the UP is the UP. Totally distinct place that should not be disrespected by being referred to as up north.

very nice - used to camp and raft there when I was a kid, as well... and in high school. We'd hit Lake Chatuga for some water skiing, drive over into Hiawassee and down toward Helen. Beautiful down in there.

5 rules for Michigan morel hunters

Get outside and train your eyes onto the forest floor. Morel season is on in Michigan.

“People are already finding the black ones around Jackson,” said Chris Wright, executive director of the Midwest American Mycological Information.

That name roughly translates to “people who love growing and foraging for mushrooms.” The Farmington Hills-based nonprofit organization leads classes in safe mushroom foraging, which are required for people who want to sell mushrooms they’ve collected.

“There a big mystique about morels,” Wright said. “They only come up once a year, and it’s fun to trample through the woods and try to find them.”
