Mio and area Doings
I think it's time for a thread beyond my annual canoe marathon thread to alert all you dorks to the wonderful events you're missing by staying downstate.
Today we start with the annual FREE breakfast at the Steiner Museum. You tell me where in the hell you can get a free pancake & sausage breakfast served by bonny Mennonite lasses? IF you can find that, do they provide free entertainment and offer camaraderie too? Exactly. We'll see some of you this weekend in Comins.

Steiner Museum to open year with pancake breakfast
COMINS TWP. — Historical artifacts, a full breakfast, live music and camaraderie will be on the menu when the Steiner Museum opens its doors for the 2016 season with its annual pancake breakfast May 28 from 8-11 a.m.
Jenny Cronkright of the Steiner Museum Historical Commission said the event is free to attend, although donations are greatly appreciated.
“It’s just a fun time for the community to get together and see what’s happening at the museum,” Cronkright said. “A lot of people just come to see each other. It brings the community into the museum to celebrate the opening, and we have a full breakfast.”
Sheriff Kevin Grace will be cooking up the sausage, while Ken Troyer will utilize a propane-fueled griddle to fry up some flapjacks. Cronkright will be scrambling the eggs, and Sandy Handrich will be cooking them on a cast-iron, wood fire stove. There will also be coffee and orange juice available, and the Comins Open “Mike” group will be providing music throughout the event.

If I showed up for breakfast, would I win a free pie for being the youngest one there?

lol, I chuckled looking at that picture before I posted it. The group there does seem to skew a little old, eh?
Well the sausage cooking Sheriff looks a little younger and has a great 70s pornstache

I don't think it's very polite to refer to the people in attendance as "historical artifacts".LooseGoose wrote:I think it's time for a thread beyond my annual canoe marathon thread to alert all you dorks to the wonderful events you're missing by staying downstate.

Mio showed some patriotism this weekend, the true All American variety not that bullshit political variety.
The patriotic crowd sings the national anthem during the service on Monday.

On the next hot weekend I'll try to get some pictures of the bikini volleyball in the river. Maybe that will appeal more to the younger crew.

Keeping the average age under 60 would be a good start.

if so, tell her that I want it to be red, white and blue (of course.. GO AMERICA!).. with an inspirational bible verse of her choice. This display of artistic freedom will make it quite the conversation piece when I have friends stop by.
Thanks!

Women of the Moose to host Rummage and Bake Sale June 3-4
“You name it, it’s out there,” she said. “Most all of it is donations — nothing’s priced. We do have people that come that are looking for good deals. The ladies out there are really nice and generous.”
Bathurst said the items available in the sale are donated by lodge members and locals. She said the money raised by the event goes toward funding the programs and events the lodge hosts throughout the year, including Santa’s annual visit.
“It’s to buy Christmas gifts and stuff like that,” she said. “It’s what the Moose is all about.”

MIO - Over an unseasonably warm and muggy Memorial Day weekend, local Mio resident Fletcher Clapsaddle, 84, broke a 63 year old Michigan Senior Olympic record when he cleared 1'3" in the high jump. With this impressive leap, Clapsaddle has now qualified for the National Senior Olympic Games which will be held this July in Sedona, Arizona - provided that he's still alive.
The Nip-N-Sip, a popular diner in the quaint town of Mio, will be holding a fundraiser geared to sending Clapsaddle to Arizona for the event. Please stop by and say hello this Saturday morning from 4:00 - 5:00 am. If you're under the age of 65 and otherwise healthy, we ask that you park across the street at the Mio Dress Barn and Video Store, as handicap parking at the Nip-N-Sip is expected to be at a premium.
