I always come back to their game against OSU last year. They got completely dismantled at home. Flat out embarrassed. That was 2 games ago for UM.

Re: Objectively....is Michigan being crazy overrated?
Overrated, yes.
Crazy overrated, no.
Neg bomb all you want but they have a very good D (arguably the best in the BIG, along with MSU, Iowa and OSU), OL is good enough, NFL pass catchers in Butt and Chesson, Smith is servicable/grinder. The only question is at QB.
O'Korn did not impress me in the spring game. Small sample size, but his throwing motion and arm strength looked questionable. And he looked too small to be running around come the BIG season. He'll get Tate Forcier'ed
That said, they escaped a few games last year and the notion the kicked our ass till the last play is bullshit. Early schedule is a cake walk and despite Ia, MSU and OSU on the road, they barely leave the State.
OSU loses a ton. I don't give a shit how much talent they 'croot. Successful teams generally are veteran teams. Michigan is a veteran team. OSU will still compete because of Barrett and talent. We'll compete as well. But like it or not they are threat to win the East, along with us and OSU.
A two lose BIG champ is a real possibility.

Re: Objectively....is Michigan being crazy overrated?
I dunno. I feel like there are 3 contenders in the East. OSU should be the faves, year in and year out. Factory. Returning Sr QB who basically was the best player in the country 2 years ago.
Michigan has proven NOTHING. They do have some good players on the D side of the ball. But they also have 3 very tough games on the road. And again, they've proven nothing.
I'm not claiming offense, but MSU should be getting the benefit of the doubt that UM is right now. More proven coach, easier schedule, better QB situation, just as good on D.
Whatevs yo.

I'm not blowin Michigan's cock here and they have proved jack shit. That said we proved jack shit and then went to a Rose Bowl. OSU, MSU, Ia, Mich and Neb (yep I said Nebraska) are 9-11 win teams and BIG contenders. None of them are clearly better than the other.

Re: Objectively....is Michigan being crazy overrated?
Yes. MSU gets knocked big time, rightfully so, for having to replace their starting QB. It seems like that's barely a consideration for Meechigan. The obvious difference is replacing a three year starter vs. a one year starter. Bollocks. Replacing a starter is replacing a starter. No matter what, a different guy is under center and is a big unknown.

Re: Objectively....is Michigan being crazy overrated?
Michigans defense will be crazy good and fast. They will be the favorite team in 11of 12 games. Their offensive line is at the point where you can say they don't suck. They have three receivers who are very good and running backs with experience.
QB is unknown but with everything mentioned I would not say they are over rated. They have the ability to beat any top ten teams with few exceptions. Clemson or Bama come to mind. Oklahoma probably would beat them.
So, overrated? Nah. I think you shouldn't rate teams till mid October anyway, but by then Michigan would be 6-0 with some lopsided wins anyway. So it's a fair rating.

Their schedule is very favorable until they hit East Lansing.
Sat. Sep. 3 vs. Hawaii
Sat. Sep. 10 vs. Central Florida
Sat. Sep. 17 vs. Colorado
Sat. Sep. 24 vs. Penn State
Sat. Oct. 1 vs. Wisconsin
Sat. Oct. 8 at Rutgers
Sat. Oct. 22 vs. Illinois
Sat. Oct. 29 at Michigan State
Sat. Nov. 5 vs. Maryland
Sat. Nov. 12 at Iowa

Worst case is 9-3 which is where I think they land. Losses at MSU, Iowa and tOSU.

No reason to believe this. Though I guess we'll find out right away with their first game at Lambeau vs LSU

Well, they're only a couple of spots out of the top 25 preseason poll and they finished 10-3 last year so yeah, I think there is a reason to believe this.

Re: Objectively....is Michigan being crazy overrated?
I don't think they're being crazy overrated, maybe a little bit though. Michigan will have a great defense, that's a given. They have some questions on offense but so do MSU and OSU.
MSU and OSU are fielding 2 very young teams this year, Michigan is fielding a veteran team, it's really that simple. This year is their chance to prove something. I think they walk into East Lansing undefeated, possibly one loss to Wisconsin. I really hope they come to EL undefeated though so we can once again crush their CFP/B1G championship hopes and dreams.

Good defense. Weak schedule. If they pull an upset or 2, they could easily finish 11-1 or...

They better find a way to move the ball consistently. It will be interesting to see that "great defense" against OSU, MSU, and IA. They'll be overrated in terms of media slurping and coverage based on destroying the little sisters of the poor, until their game against us. Sets up perfectly for Dantonio.
