My mom says this all the time. It's just a habit for some people.

My mom does this all the time, always has. I don't know where it comes from, maybe my grandparents do it too and I've just never noticed. Thankfully neither me nor my sister developed the habit.

I'm always saying "man"...."yo man, what's up"..."yeah, man.. thanks"... and people are probably equally perplexed.

at least the "mm bye" person wasn't an up-talker or the vocal fry type.. that stuff is maddening..

Mmm bye is just Uh-huh bye with Uh-huh said with a closed mouth. It's a lazy way of saying Okay, bye.
