Campus history
Feeling a little nostalgic. Any fellow codgers remember the livestock judging pavilion on Shaw? Chick on my sister floor was into equestrian and referred to it as 'the beef barn'. Fond memories of the smell of manure walking to/from/past the engineering building during spring term.

Yep. I also seem to remember some of the Quonset huts were still there in the late 70s or maybe even early 80s.

I must be feeling nostalgic too, because I picked up a copy of this book and started reading it.

Wasn't that on Wilson? I remember when i lived in acres walking by there coming from the Com or Nat Sci building and it looked like the 4H fair had rolled into town.

No, it was on Shaw. The space it occupied is now a parking deck.Nordic wrote:The Pantry wrote:Feeling a little nostalgic. Any fellow codgers remember the livestock judging pavilion on Shaw? I think it's a surface lot.

It ain't Green Acres, Nordy. It's Akers as in Forest. Are you sure you went to MSU?

What do you think?
Twelve pylons, made of alternating bands of limestone, concrete, and brick, mark the location, with two plaques commorating the legacy of the Livestock Judging Pavilion

Might be. Thought there was a deck. Have not been on campus in 15 years. Last time was a quick drive through on the way back from Muskegon. Could hardly believe Trowbridge went into campus...it use to stop at Harrison.tGreenWay wrote:The Pantry wrote:No, it was on Shaw. The space it occupied is now a parking deck.

Kind of in between the 2 surface lots. It's a walkway between the International Center and Engineering. People tailgate there.

Wife and I got a 1 bdr in the section west of Marigold in the part of University Village that is now back to flood plain. We were in the end unit close sest to the intersetion and I'd walk past the last of Quonset huts on the way to classes.
Had several classmates who referred to themselves as MSU brats who spent up to a year living in them while their folks were waiting for something in Cherry Village to open up. They said their folks would hang blankets or quilts up on the wallside of their bed because you could stick on real cold winter nights.
Dr. Hannah saw an opportunity to make MSC become MSU and all those returning vets with GI Bill needed campus housing for their families.

There's a multilevel parking ramp directly west of the law school That's ~20 years old now.
