It's legal and it's probably something he's done at his company. If your place of work has video and has notified they can legally monitor your phone calls if made from their phones. Even cell if they are paid for under company contract.

If those White House employees signed agreements that included a provision that their personal phones can be monitored for security reasons I'm surprised this is news.

^ Yeah this is kinda silly. Of course they're going through people's shit, their staff is leaking stories left and right and they have no idea who they can trust. Most successful first month of any administration ever.

Ask Kwame Kilpatrick if cell phones are your shit. Some companies even kept text messages for a year or so.
