The nearly complete disappearance of Piano in Rock & Roll sucks
So many great songs in the past and these young kids have shoved this classic instrument into the cut out bin.
This is not a thread to debate what is an indisputable fact, this is a thread to post proof of greatness.
We start with perhaps the greatest Piano driven rock song of the last 50 years.

I was 8 when this song was released. There's no doubt that it, along with Ides of March, and then the earliest Chicago work had a big time effect on my love of piano and brass in music.

BTW: Those pimpin fuckers from Lighthouse recorded One Fine Morning again five years ago and they still killed it. They only thing different is how old they'd gotten.

Dream Theater and a lot of other modern Progessive Rock/Metal bands use Pianos and Keyboards all the time. You won't find the good shit on the radio Goose, gotta go out and look for it!

Roy Bittan has always been an integral part of the E Street Band.. has also shown up on a lot of other great artists work - Seger (Roll Me Away), Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne, Dire Straits, Lucinda Williams.xsanguine wrote:WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Does Bryce Sprongfellowstein use Piano on his vinyl?
but, yes., The Professor's work on Backstreets, Jungleland, Thunder Road.. the 3 minute coda on Racing in the Street is worth the price of admission alone.

I've seen Bob post that Springsteen song in a few threads but never heard it. Now I know why: it's terrible. Not even the piano can save it.

All the rock and roll keyboard talent is playing new country. Saw the opening of the Country Music Awards.

Beat me to it LG....Elton had quite a few great songs that highlighted his piano playing. Benny and the Jets, Crocodile Rock, Levon, etc...he was just awesome back in the day. Others I loved were Changes by David Bowie, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Nothing from Nothing by Billy Preston

If I had to ensemble a Rock N Roll dream team, Roy Bittan would be my pianist.
