The most telling part was towards the beginning when he mentioned that they thought the investigation would be wrapped up by now, more or less.

Basically, as someone said elsewhere, the spring game forced his hand to make a public appearance and yeah, I guess in a way 'play nice' with the media. Give some access, take some questions, state what you can or can't say and why.
