I realize taste is highly subjective and personal, so I try not to minimize other's selections, but Brazil nuts? Yuck.

Macadamia is the correct answer and should take the place of peanut in the poll.

I voted for peanuts. I don't care if they aren't nuts, they were a poll option. Peanuts are in so much other shit. You guys know anyone with a peanut allergy? They have to check fucking everything. I don't wanna live like that.

Yeah, my 3 year-old daughter. She also has serious tree nut and seed allergies. It sucks. Why peanuts seem to be "in everything" is a cross contamination issue.Cameron wrote:I voted for peanuts. Yeah. A buddy of mine has a tree nut allergy (like epipen carrying at all times) and since almost all nuts are processed in the same facility he can't risk having any around. It's also amazing how many processed products he can't try. Dude's a good cook but he basically has to make everything from scratch to avoid an issue. Bread is one of the crazier ones I would not have thought of.

That sucks. I used to be badly allergic to aspirin until I was about 15. I have been able to take it for the past 25 years now with no issues. Maybe she'll grow out of it.

It is amazing to see how much her allergies have changed over time. She had her first anaphylactic reaction just before her first birthday when she touched hummus (sesame in tahini) so we have 2+ years of allergy testing. She has two allergist, both say she will not grow out of her major allergies but one does oral immunotherapy (OIT) so we hope she someday she will not be anaphylactic toward some foods. She as to "carry" an epipen at all times. We have three sets, one at her school, one at home and one in a bag that goes with her at all times.CheesySpartan wrote:MSU addict wrote:Yeah, my 3 year-old daughter. FWIW, she has never actually had a peanut but tested highly allergic to them.

Long story on allergies. While in my early 30s I spent nearly every weekend one summer getting sick while coming home from the cottage. My parents laughed at me and told me I was getting old and needed to ease up on the drinking. Fall came and I was fine until January. For a decade I had spent a week in January in Louisville for a trade show, usually that week included a dinner at the New Orleans House. The New Orleans House was a pretty upscale seafood buffet and a favorite of mine.
This year was different, by the time I got back to my room I was violently ill. Somewhere in the middle of that we put 2+2 together and came up with a theory that was subsequently proven to be true. I had become allergic to oysters. I loved oysters, when I lived in FL I used to buy them by the dozens to eat. One of my favorite endings to a weekend at the cottage was sitting at the beach reading the Sunday paper and eating smoked oysters thus the problems on the drive home.
So somehow at age 31/32/33 I went from loving oysters to not being able to eat them at all.

Re: If you could only have one nut for the rest of your life
A seed. Of all the nuts listed only the hazelnut is a true nut. Peanuts are legumes and the rest are probably best classified as the seed of a drupe. Even the macadamia is a seed.SawGreen wrote:Dr. Strangelove wrote:

The good news chestnuts are nuts - so our friends from the smaller big ten school in the state really do bust a nut on Bo's grave.
