Anybody use What's App?

Heard my wife using it to speak with a friend and the clarity was excellent. The only things I know about it are 1) There's always messages about it in my junk email folder, and 2) Zuckerberg bought it.

Is the purpose of the app just to avoid racking up minutes on your mobile phone?

Isn't that just another iMessage, Skype kind of thing?

I have used it before to talk to people in Germany and save the over see fees

My work uses it. Supposed to be encrypted pretty well.

Yeah, I have an attorney friend who has a couple of clients who insist on using it, too.

It's useful when you're out of the country

That's one of the complaints about it, at least from governments. I think the British Prime Minister or someone over there has called for it to be banned because of the encryption, which terrorists can find helpful (the ol' throw the baby out with the bathwater rationale).

But for personal use, where most people don't need heavy encryption, are there advantages over any other chat/Internet calling app?
