You know this really gives context to why the idea that the president is exempt from criminal prosecution makes absolutely no sense at all (and isn’t true.)

For example, what if the President, instead of just political enemies, sent seal team 6 after the entire sitting US senate? Of course there would be recourse for that. These goofballs are arguing that there isn’t. Silly gooses.

This is going beyond serious.

The Executive is not beyond the law.

An order to attack and kill US citizens is not normally a lawful order, and no military officer should accept it as lawful.

The partisan instrument of impeachment is not a strong enough protection against a Party with no moral compass.

So he's basically arguing that Biden can have him killed right now. Cool. Would be hilarious if Biden posted something on social media saying, "On the phone with Seal Team Six." But he won't.

My first thought on this argument was that Trump, if elected again, could just pull out a gun in the oval office and kill an advisor if they disagreed with him.

The best argument, which one of the judges put to Trump's lawyer, was that Trump's other lawyers made the exact opposite argument in January 2021 during the second impeachment trial. That his term was almost over, so just let the courts prosecute him. I remember McConnell and many other Senators and Congressmen saying the same thing.

I find the standing DoJ opinion that they cannot proceed with an indictment of a sitting president to also be on shaky logic.

Trump is trying to emulate Kim Jong Un who has no qualms about killing anyone he wants to, whenever he wants to. Putin is also one of his heros that does the same. Neither have to put up with scrutiny from anyone and Trump would love to have the same protections.

Trump can steal headlines and suck the air out of that event with his claim to be doing his own closing arguments.  His lawyers know that Trump speaking on the record for himself can be an unmitigated disaster not only fro this trial but others as well.

At the 11th hour Trump will most likely back out.  Its his MO.
