I remember getting to stay up to watch it....people today can't imagine how much of the world was transfixed by it.

Called my grandparents after. They were in California. Remember having to dial zero and the operator putting you through to who you were calling? We've come a long way.

Well my mom was 13 and my dad was 21. Safe to say, I wasn't even thought of then.

My folks tuned in to CBS. If you tuned in to ABC/CBS or NBC you were going to see it.

Pre-Beta/VHS/digital recording and my technology geek neighbor set up his 35mm camera on a tripod and used his old black and white set to take photos of the TV screen. He tested it 3-4 times with different distances and room illumination and developed the film in his darkroom for at least a week before.

My 75-80 year old uncle thought it was staged in Hollywood and NASA was a big money pit for industry until he dies at 98.
