Go to your local bike shop and have them find the right bike for you, if they can even get them right now.

Yeah, noticed looking most (if not all) of the bikes recommended online are out of stock. Was hoping to get her a new rig so we could hit some local trails this month. May not happen. I'll check craigslist...

I either need to get her a new ride or me a new ride. What do you recommend? Casual suburban rider. But still want a mountain bike for the odd trail ride. And I still wanna look cool, like dudes that drive pickups on their commute.
I don't need anything special and not looking to break the bank. She is 5-8 and strong enough to handle a bigger rig. I check in a c-hair under 6-4 and 220ish (hard 'ish' right now). What size and brands should I look at for either of us? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to bicycles.
Here's my advice. Go to a local retailer that carries a few different brands. Try to go at an off time when it's not so busy. Let the owner or knowledgeable salesperson spend time educating you and helping pick the right size for your needs. If you feel like taking short drive, check out Stony Creek bike in Washington on Van Dyke and talk to Ken. Now, the only problem with my suggestion is that every retailer's stock is depleted or non-existent, so test drives are impossible. Wait until February or March.
That's where I got my first bike back in the day

Just picked up this for da kid. Base model. If she gets into it we can upgrade. It scoots with the 29" rims.

False. Just tried and failed to sell a 55 gallon rain barrel. Couldn’t get the $500 i was asking. Hardly used, and the fist-sized hole near the bottom could easily be repaired with a couple of those Flex sheets. People just don’t recognize a good deal even if it slaps them in the nuts.

Picking up another Specialized Rockhopper Sport 29 Wednesday from KLM Bikes in Rochester. The ancient Columbia in the pics above didn't make it through the move. We donated it and another college-era bike to my BIL and nephew. Weather is starting to turn and needed a new bike.
I like my kid's rockhopper. Rides nice. Solid. Decent price. Nothing fancy. Her's is obviously too small for me. KLM had an XL. I got the orange so Bob can see me while I'm ahead of him on Lake Ovid.

I'm already planning some gravel riding this weekend. Just north of the greater East Lansing Metropolitan area, there are lots of interconnected gravel roads where you can get in some good miles. Been on the wind trainer in the basement a lot through the winter, so it'll be nice to feel my knees in the breeze.
Also, diggin' Specialized being repp'd so much in this thread. Love my Specialized 29er.
I'm thinking about trying to refurbish my first 'real' road bike. I still have the frame and most of the components. It's a mid-80's Bianchi (I'm guessing '85-'86) - aluminum frame. The components I do have are Shimano Ultegra - so those would be pretty sweet to stick with for old times sake.

Before I bought the above, I was looking at FB marketplace (and they are still popping up). Everyone has a bike stand, do I need a bike stand to display my ride to the neighbors?

I can’t see the photo but I don’t have a stand. I try not to display my Trek 820 from 1998. Its trade-in value comes in at a hefty $38-$39. lol

My life is ruined, I have the same bike, it's green & white.

I prefer to impress others with my svelte physique and superior aerobic capacity.

Mine is mostly green, the primary reason I bought it. Fear not, though, as I understood our classic bike could fetch upwards of $98 on the open market.

They never leave well enough alone... sheesh.
Probably something that cost $1,500 and breaks after the 3rd use.

That's a Presta valve. Many bike pumps these days come with both Presta and Schrader valve holes in the hose nozzle. Unscrew the the little nut on the end of the valve, insert valve into pump hole and pump away, then retighten.
Ps. Congrats on the new bike.

I've never considered myself a high end bike mechanic. I can perform some basic functions of tuning up a bike, some front/rear derailleur work, switching tubes, etc. But this YouTube channel is pretty good for some instructions/info. Married couple/professional mountain bikers - she sort of hosts it and the husband helps with a lot of tech/spec stuff.
She admittedly isn't much of a mechanic, so she's learning along the way, as well - so it makes it a bit more informative.

I wish I knew more. I'm good with flats and chain lube and that's about it. Thanks for the link!
