Why are there numbers on baseball uniforms?

Isn't it relatively easy to distinguish players apart? Or basketball for that matter.

I don't think you'd have been able to sneak Prince Fielder in for Andrew Romine at the plate.

Izzo in a basketball uni would be hilarious. He is already half way on the court in a suit yelling most of the time - he might actually shoot the ball if you put that guy in uni.

Considering Tim brobakgos(sp) had a better offensive game than tum I’d go with yes.
