Re: Falcons new jiffy pop stadium
Is this the stadium that got public funding without a vote by the taxpayers and had all of the contracts agreed upon behind closed doors? I'd be so pissed if I had to contribute to that thing.

Sort of. They are using a hotel/motel tax for a portion of it. So, not really taxing Atlanta residents. Of course, they could use that money for other purposes than helping build a stadium for a billionaire.

Because the owner doesn't make enough money at the Georgia Dome, and the city didn't want the team to leave downtown.
So...no need, really.

There aren't too many people in this country that can say they only make needs based decisions. We are a want based society.

when I read the title and before opening the thread I thought, "Wow, Jiffy Pop bought the naming rights? I never would have thought they were still doing that well"

I think the roof will close like one of those collapsible folding strainer sieve steamer basket things.

Is the only display area going to be on that banner board? I don't see anything indicating some type of traditional big screen. If so, that's fucking stupid.

Apparently, it's going to be a 360 degree video board.

You are thinking of the new Braves Stadium in Cobb, that is an ugly deal for the taxpayers. From what I understand the owner of the Falcons, Home Depot guy I think, is putting in a good chunk of it.

ATL / Fulton / Georgia on the hook for $300 million to replace a 20 year old stadium that they spent $300 million renovating between 2008 and 2010.

It will be more than $300 million when it's all said and done.

Looking at the advances in sports stadium architecture, along with all of the advances in technology. Are Ford Field and Comerica already obsolete?

Comerica is fine. Dont they have the largest video board in the majors now? Besides the shallow view in the lower deck it seems to be aging well. Never been a huge fan of Ford Field.

That's the one. Thanks. I've never been a part of any recall effort, but if I lived in that area and was affected by it, I'd be leading the charge for recalling everyone elected official involved.

As a team, the Lions have been obsolete during my entire existence on earth. Conversely, I'd go watch the Tigers even if their home games were played in a walmart parking lot in ann arbor.

The proposed new stadium will cost $622 million, with $392 million coming from the public. That includes $368 million in bonds, $14 million in transportation sales tax and $10 million in cash from businesses in the Cumberland Community Improvement District.

Georgia Dome will get torn down.
Turner Field looks like it will get converted into a football stadium for Georgia State...which will then put in a baseball stadium on the site of...you guessed it...the old Fulton County Stadium.
