That bridge looks extremely high up.

The irony is that the bridge was being installed because it was so dangerous for students crossing a very busy street (3 lanes in each direction, not counting turn lanes).

Can't fucking imagine what it must be like to be in one of the cars under it.

Extremely fucked up. A brand new bridge failing so catastrophically given all the civil engineering knowledge? It's crazy. RIP to the victims.

Looked at a map of the area. Was a bit surprised to see the road the bridge crossed is part of US-41.

People under the bridge were trapped because the light was red.

Have not seen a shot of the bridge after the riggers put it in place and before it collapsed. Did it not have a center support in the median? Sure didn't look like it the way it went down.

The only explanation for this failure is gross negligence by at least one, though probably several parties. I'd expect criminal charges.

This happened in Florida. I'd be shocked if there were criminal charges.

They mention the bridge may have been undergoing stress tests...maybe that's why the crane was situated at the end that collapsed first. Still, why stress test a bridge that was in public but had not been completed? Shitload of lawsuits coming and those determined ultimately responsible should go to jail.

Maybe, but there sure as hell will be civil suits.  I'd bet anything Tanny drove down there as soon as he heard about it.

Well, he moved the crane out of the way, then offered to help, then moves the crane again. The last part is curious, but cops have cleared him.
