To be fair, Kelly didn't defend their actions, he simply told them to not talk to the cops. And he didn't inform the AD that 3 of his players were prime suspects in a murder. And he later said that black kids come from a culture of violence, so it's not surprising that it happened. But he never defended the actual violence. So he's got that going for him.
