So the #1 song when you were 14 defines your life.
I know you’re all gonna look now even though it’s just a thing to do.
LSD defines me. Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
You can pick the coolest of the year or when you turned 14 exactly.

DWags, you were 14 in 1976 give or take, and LSD was from 1967. What am I missing?

I don't even remember his version. He was hot in 1975 though, three #1 hits.
1974 was weird because a couple of novelty songs topped the charts. Technically I suppose I have a choice between "Rock the Boat" and "Sundown" since my birthday falls in between, but F that. I'm going with "Band on the Run", "The Streak" or "Kung Fu Fighting" which all topped the charts at some point during the year.

the day she was born: "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey (never heard it)
the day she turned 14: "Royals" by Lorde - that's actually pretty cool. Could've been a lot worse.

Now "Ice Ice Baby" - that's a sweet tune that sometimes makes an appearance in my house when I'm rockin' my patented dance moves.

Had no idea that was a #1 song. It's close enough, I'll go with it, too.

Yeah, that list for 1990 was complete shit save for maybe the Bon Jovi song. Vanilla Ice, New Kids, Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, fucking Nelson? Jesus.

in the scheme of things as it relates to radio play, my formative years (probably 13-15) was basically a lot of the British invasion/new wave-type stuff.. which was pretty cool.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:Senior Dickfist wrote:

ya know, Bowie, The Police (Synchronicity was huge), Duran Duran.. Purple Rain was huge in 1984.. Born in the USA came out in '84.
"Boys of Summer" is still a great freakin' song.
so it could've been worse for me, I guess.

The Next Time I Fall by Peter Cetera and Amy Grant. Maybe I'd recognize it if I heard it, but doesn't ring a bell.
Considering I was a metal head and not into the pop music/MTV stuff at all, I'm pretty shocked how many of the songs from that year (86) that I know, and know well enough to be able to sing along with the chorus if I so desired. I sometimes wonder how I remember as much popular 80s music as I do, since I don't remember actively listening to it by choice very much.
If I were to pick the coolest #1 song from that year, it would probably be Walk Like and Egyptian, cause the Bangles lead singer was really fucking hot. Ok, maybe not really the "coolest" song, but my 14 year old self would have had his reasons for watching that video.

Miami, I'm the same way both then and now. I never listen to popular music and am totally out of touch with what is popular. I think I'm turning into a metal head version of my dad!

I remember back in the mid-late 80's looking at some kid's yearbook. Each kid had their own page and could apparently put whatever they wanted on it.
This kid had lyrics from Lucy in the Sky and attributed them to....... Elton John.
You're not one of those kids, are you Wags?

Are we doing birthday or just year? Top 100 music sucked. It was either a Madonna song or Mariah Carey.

This. I'm going to go back and see if one of those other lists had some cool music on it.

Just for you, buddy!
Shot down in a blaze of glory
Take me now but know the truth
'Cause I'm going down in a blaze of glory
Lord, I never drew first
But I drew first blood
I'm the devil's son
Call me young gun
