I saw something very unique... Weather??? Empty I saw something very unique... Weather???

Post by SawGreen 8/16/2018, 9:52 pm

I have a place on a small branch of the Pere Marquette in Lake County.

So, i'm walking by the river and here some splashing, and my dog starts growling toward the river. I'm thinking, a deer would be running away, a bear (of which there are a ton up there) ??

After I re-grouped a bit, I moseyed to the bank, and watched a salmon fighting it's way upstream.

I have 20 years experience on this stream. I have never seen a salmon in mid-August. Is it a sign?

Nah, it's normal. There's always some early salmon.

As long as I remember, growing up in Manistee, just a beers drive away from that crick, I’d side with this.

I suppose so.  This is 10 minutes East of Baldwin.  Quite a trek.

The earliest that I remember seeing that far inland was Labor Day.  And that was several years ago.

I think the salmon are mystics myself.

Well, you'll have to use flies on that stretch. Cast, catch and smoke, because those fuckers are half dead. Zombie salmon.

Thundersticks in the firetiger pattern used to work pretty well. Damn, I need to go find a nice pier to fish off of.

This works well too. The fish aren't hitting the lures to eat, the theory is they're territorial and pissed.
