Rumblings about B1G expansion & other changes
Talk of Delaney going after OU and Texas for realignment around 2025. Also talks about doing away with divisions, which the second article talks more about.

I would rather get rid of Maryland and Rutgers than expand again. And IF this did go through that means Rutgers and Texas in the same conference. What happens to the Midwest identity of the conference? Jim just wants to sell the last shreads of it for the all mighty dollar.

The dream was to pick off UNC and UVA. Both schools don't want to be in the same conference as their state school brethren. But the ACC got pissed after we poached Maryland and upped the buyout.

I wish we’d leave the B10.

Texas would be a nightmare and the Oklahoma State legislature would never let the Sooners abandon the Pokes. We would have to take them both.

Agreed. I'd swap with Virginia right now.

ACC is better than the B10. More championships and the ncaa looks the other way when you cheat.

Easier sell for football recruiting. Especially locally and Ohio. Basketball upgrade as well.

Don’t get me wrong I loved the classic B10 conference but this is 2018. All that acc espn exposure? Get out of town! Recruits eat that shit up.
Also, both Maryland and Nebraska sports took a drop off when they joined the B10. Coincidence? I think not.

Re: Rumblings about B1G expansion & other changes
IMO - what needs to happen in college sports is for there to be football conferences, basketball conferences and non-revenue sports conferences.
too long; don't read spoiler
too long; don't read spoiler
- Spoiler:
Separate football and basketball conferences can be supported by the revenues generated by those sports. Who cares what the cost is to travel to the coast, there is an abundance of funding to support however those super-conferences would be formed. They would support playoffs and championships, matchups that would be interesting. Sure it also creates issues for the not Power 5 schools/conferences, but the MAC can still have Tues/Weds/Thur night games if they want TV revenue.
There could be a separate national champion recognized for the Division 1, "B" level schools - yeah someone would need to come up with a better name for it, but lets face it at least 1/3 of the Power 5 schools are not in the running for their conference championships, let alone playoffs (and I don't care how good they were in the 1930's, 60's or even the 1980's). I'm thinking about schools like Vandy, Indiana, North Carolina, Kansas, Rutgers (of course), and your favorite doormat. Those are football examples, but there are plenty of basket ball examples as well, although in all reality hoops isn't locked into the "problem" that football has because March Madness isn't about finding 4 special teams/programs to anoint into a playoff.
In my mind the old CCHA, is a great model for the non-revenue sports (and by non-revenue I mean those that don't generate revenue in excess of the cost of the sport - hockey in the North and baseball in the south are borderline, but ignore that).
These sports can be in traditional regional conferences, if they like. Things like the B1G, MAC, hell they can recreate old conferences if they like - the Southwest Conference, Big 8 and WAC. There could be sports that are for specific sports, like the CCHA. This would allow schools to save millions of dollars in travel, so that Nebraska isn't going to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland for softball, track, wrestling, etc.
And there could be different conference for different sports, if they made sense - if there is an elite sports group for wrestling or tennis or whatever, then they can make a separate alliance/conference. This could be somewhat similar to how the B1G currently has schools that are member of the conference for a specific sport - Notre Dame for hockey and Johns Hopkins for Lacrosse (both mens and womens).
Hell the B1G is the best conference in college mens soccer, with 3 teams in the Final Four. And even at that there are 5 B1G schools who don't play D1 soccer (or at least they don't play it in the B1G conference).
It makes no sense to add Texas and Oklahoma to the B1G, but then it made no sense to add Maryland, Rutgers and Nebraska. Well no sense other than a money grab, and trying to fill hundreds of hours on the BigTen Network with things other than football & basketball. Make 4 or 5 or 6 conferences for football; I'd say 12 team conferences where you'd play 8 conference games (5 in your own division, 3 in the other division), and 4 non-conference games, of which at least 2 have to be against the other major conference teams ... did I say 2, I think I meant 3, and then you can play 1 patsy (2 when I was not thinking right).
And then when it is all about money, decisions can be made that don't affect no revenue sports.

I still want Notre Dame, but UT and OU would be prettt cool. Take all three and then get Rutgers to leave and life would be good in the B1G.

Pretty sure they've been here long enough to claim squatter's rights.
