How petty are the ACC and Big East (oops American)?
A plan to hold "Rutgers Day" on the network July 2 has been postponed due to delays acquiring the broadcast rights to some of Rutgers' past games. The plan had been to welcome Rutgers to the conference by broadcasting 24 hours of classic games from the school's history. "Maryland Day," which was scheduled for July 1, has also been pushed back.
"Due to some difficulty in getting the games in house, 'Rutgers Day' is going to have to happen a little bit later in the summer," Silverman said. "I don't want to do a 'Rutgers Day' and not have the programming to rationalize it. And we don't own the game rights so it's just taking us longer than we anticipated to get those rights. There will be a 'Rutgers Day,' but it will not be July 2."

Making it difficult for the Big Ten Network to get rights to old Rutgers and Maryland games?

Delaney is slipping. The B1G should get paid for cleaning out their junk closet.

How is this petty? If your neighbor came and stole your lawnmower would you not be "petty" also? The conferences own the game rights why give them away?

Nobody said give them away. And we didn't steal Maryland. They willingly left because your conference wasn't very united. Making concessions for Notre Dame like you guys did is just going to further make things weird in the ACC. Florida State really should get out of that mess of a conference as soon as they can.Donjuanmc wrote:How is this petty? If your neighbor came and stole your lawnmower would you not be "petty" also? Yeah it was a bad analogy but still don't think its petty to protect your property. Why would fsu leave? Cakewalk to the playoffs just about every year and the money's there. Trading Louisville for Maryland was also a massive upgrade.

Yes, except a lawnmower isn't an autonomous entity with the power to exercise free will when its "owner" (I really wouldn't use that analogy either--the ACC doesn't own the schools) doesn't have the money or power to keep the lawnmower running in the best shape possible.

It might be better if no one has to see the BW/Dowdell cramp game again.

Can't wait to add old Rutgers and Maryland players to greatest players in the BigTen discussions.

Even though he ended up dying before he ever played a game, he was probably a better #2 overall pick than Darko was.NigelUno wrote:Can't wait to add old Rutgers and Maryland players to greatest players in the BigTen discussions.

The only Rutgers highlights I can think of are...
In womens basketball in the 2000s, they almost won a national title and subsequently a radio host lost his job making derogatory comments about said team.
In football in the 2000s, they had a year where they were undefeated and beat another undefeated team in a close game, but didn't do anything else the rest of the year.
In football in the 1990s, they were blown out by Penn State and the Rutgers coach went after Paterno after the game and some curse words were exchanged on air.
In football in the 1980s and 90s, Perles lost to Rutgers twice. At home.
Sometime after the Civil War, Rutgers played in the first intercollegiate football game. I don't know if any daguerreotypes exist of highlights.

They lost to UM in the NIT finals during UM's NIT dynasty. There is an awesome pic out there of the UM team posing with the NIT trophy, all happy with the win, and Bernard Robinson off to the side (it was his last game) with a "I didn't sign up for this shit" look on his face.
