Seven deputy sheriffs in Virginia have been charged with second-degree murder over the death of a man in custody.

Irvo Otieno, a 28-year-old black man, died on 6 March while he was being transferred from a jail to a mental health facility.

Prosecutors have accused the deputy sheriffs of suffocating Mr Otieno during the transfer.

Medical examiners have not released a cause of death for Mr Otieno.

His hands and legs were both cuffed and he was held on the ground for 12 minutes by all seven Henrico County deputy sheriffs, said Dinwiddie County Commonwealth's lawyer Ann Cabell Baskervill in court on Wednesday

(AP) — Several deputies from a Mississippi sheriff’s department being investigated by the Justice Department for possible civil rights violations have been involved in at least four violent encounters with Black men since 2019 that left two dead and another with lasting injuries, an Associated Press investigation found.

Two of the men allege that Rankin County sheriff’s deputies shoved guns into their mouths during separate encounters. In one case, the deputy pulled the trigger, leaving the man with wounds that required parts of his tongue to be sewn back together. In one of the two fatal confrontations, the man’s mother said a deputy kneeled on her son’s neck while he told them he couldn’t breathe.

Police and court records obtained by the AP show that several deputies who were accepted to the sheriff’s office’s Special Response Team — a tactical unit whose members receive advanced training — were involved in each of the four encounters. In three of them, the heavily redacted documents don’t indicate if they were serving in their normal capacity as deputies or as members of the unit.

I disagree as he wasn't actively shooting, as he didn't have a gun, when they murdered him.  The police should shoot unless they are actively in danger, and they should be trained to act this way, instead of being trained to kill.

To be fair my opinion is that the police should not carry guns, so I am pretty radical on this topic.

A Washington, D.C. police officer was arrested Friday on charges that he lied about leaking confidential information to Proud Boys extremist group leader Enrique Tarrio and obstructed an investigation after group members destroyed a Black Lives Matter banner in the nation’s capital.

An indictment alleges that Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Shane Lamond, 47, of Stafford, Virginia, warned Tarrio, then national chairman of the far-right group, that law enforcement had an arrest warrant for him related to the banner’s destruction.

Tarrio was arrested in Washington two days before Proud Boys members joined the mob in storming the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Earlier this month, Tarrio and three other leaders were convicted of seditious conspiracy charges for what prosecutors said was a plot to keep then-President Donald Trump in the White House after he lost the 2020 election.

A federal grand jury in Washington indicted Lamond on one count of obstruction of justice and three counts of making false statements. A magistrate judge ordered Lamond’s release from custody after he pleaded not guilty to the charges during his initial court appearance Friday.

Delaware State Police have agreed to pay $50,000 to resolve a federal lawsuit filed by a man who said troopers violated his constitutional rights by preventing him from warning motorists about a speed trap.

On Nov 55, 2022 an off duty CHPS officer dozed off on Highway 5. He hit and killed 2 USMC Lance Corporals whose vehicle had broken down. The officer was driving 30MPH over the speed limit in a construction zone.

California Highway Patrol finally released their investigation after 11 months to the DA’s office.

We're seeking to have the federal Department of Justice come in and do an investigation to make sure that each and every one of these citizens, disproportionately Black citizens, whose lives matter will be identified, their families notified, and them given a proper funeral.

We know, based on the records from the coroner's office, that, since 2016, in the last eight years, we can identify 215 individuals that were buried behind that jail, and their families have not been notified.

Furthermore, Mr. Wade was number 672. That means there are 671 other people buried behind that jail marked with only a number.

Over 600 bodies. While it is not unusual for prisons to have these types of burial grounds, in the internet age it really isn't that hard to tack down survivors. JFC.

But this is the type of attitude many cops i know have.  And honestly, they need to see this and understand that its attitudes like this that aren't "serving" us, but it almost seems like she's going into work daily with the attitude of "Them vs. us".  Some people do make mistakes and don't check their rearview for a bit.

I think sometimes people need to remember that yes our high school educated police force is in fact more likely to murder you if you’re black. But they won’t hesitate to murder you if you’re a 15 year old girl or a white man or an Asian woman or anyone who they are afraid of. And they actively rile themselves up to be afraid of literally everyone. No, you really are not safe when you’re around a cop anymore and you should be pushing for reform too, not just if you’re a minority.
