Deadspin is Dead

As are some of the other sites in the Gizmodo, formerly Gawker family. Mass exodus of writers including their most experienced and most read due to management telling them to “stick to sports,” them telling management that “that’s not what we do, and management firing their much-loved editor.

I’m sure at least one of you (I wonder which) will say good riddance, that site is trash, but you’re wrong (as, literally, always). A lot of the young writers that came up through Gawker are changing the face of journalism for the better.

I agree with you and I think it’s a bummer. They’ve evolved and did some good work.

and before those morons chime in, deadspin never, from its inception, "stuck to sports." that isn't what they did or ever did.

by all accounts, their non-sports articles drove more traffic to the site than the sports articles and, therefore, were more valuable and profitable.

this was an edict by a dipshit PE failure because he didn't agree with their politics. fuck him.

I always accessed Deadspin with Chrome.. specifically the i94-E'17 gig edition. I'd patch it through with a kevlar-reinforced cord compatible with my wristwatch. Same with Gizmodo, Gawker, and all similar platforms.

I'm gonna have to work harder to read Drew Magary now, and I'm lazy, so that makes me sad. Fucking vulture capitalists ruin everything.

Last employee quit today. Not that people won't follow most of those authors wherever they go.

No he isn't. He hated it and transferred out. He wrote a long ass piece about how miserable he was there once upon a time. Lauren Theisen was their MSU-hating UM-loving grad, but she'd only been around a year or so.

He admits he grew up a UM fan but has almost no affection for college sports as an adult.

Ok then. It shows UM as his alma mater in his bio somewhere. Good to know.

It was. Diana Moskovitz (sp - and probably the best actual journalist there) wrote a couple of legitimate pieces about MSU, but it was always Theisen running with the gossip-style/Blackwell, etc., type shit. If you thought it was odd that a national/global blog had a bizarre number of stories about UM non-con basketball games or whatever recently, that was her.

It would be nice to see someone put up some money to bring back the staff as another online publication. It worked at Deadline, it can work under another name.

That would be great. They'd have a massive and immediate following and could attack whatever jackasses "deadspin" hires to replace them and make Barstool Sports 2.0.

A lot of them (like Magary) weren't exclusive to deadspin, so I'm sure we'll see plenty of stuff around. Was just nice to have it in one spot.
