George Perles-celebration of life
I just got home from GP's memorial service at the Huntington Club. I generally wouldn't call these things cool but this one was. About 300 people and of course, a who's who of Spartans.
Pat Perles gave a great speech. Franky he surprised me because the kid I remember from his college days was never very articulate. Probably 35 or so members of the Rose Bowl team made it. Coaches like Charlie Baggett, Bobby Williams and Pat Morris.
I saw and talked to a ton of people I had not seen in a long time. Man did we get old. Lol.

How did you know Saban was in Michigan, did he post it on his Instagram stories?

Applying for Jim Harbaugh’s DC. Michigan is willing to pay him 20 million and get his wife’s job back at Tomi Raines.

My pleasure. I usually spend about 20 minutes at these things. Today I stayed for over 3 hours. Each time I thought I had said hello to everyone, somebody else popped up.Robert J Sakimano wrote:Pretty awesome, duff.

Re: George Perles-celebration of life
So I am standing with Yarema and along comes Hondo.
He says " Hello old friend, how's everything and what are you up to these days"?
Dave makes some small talk and Hondo eventually goes away.
After Hondo leaves, Yarema gives me a puzzled look and says: "Who the fuck was that?"

Cool.
These videos have been featuring last week's player of the game. I'm surprised they didn't have an Iowa OL showing the uni off.

Meh, seems like they half-assed it. If the want to do the old school Perles era uniform tribute, go with the kelly green instead of the dark green, and make it a real throwback.

Definitely will be disappointed if the helmets MATCH the jersey. If it's old schoolen it, they won't come close. In his honor of course.

Gotta mondernize it. Thankfully they didn't go with the S only on one side. That was fucking stoopid.

This. Never a fan of the S, but maybe because of the darker, matte green, I like it a little less less.
And those of you pining for a kelly green, my answer is no. And I will fight all y’all over this.

Not pining for the kelly green, I love the dark green/forest green color in general (beyond just MSU). I'd rather they not change the helmets at all for the game. But if you're going to do old school, do old school. Don't half ass it.
Having said that, I really don't care what we wear. We can wear pink tutus, and rainbows and unicorns. Just not maize and blue, as I can't support public obscenity. There might be kids watching!

I’m guessing the athletic department didn’t want the added expense of a uniform that would only be used one time, especially right now. It’s way less expensive to swap out decals. TBH, the block S is also, IMO, the most prominent and easily identifiable feature of the Perles years.

Very cool that we are doing something for George on Saturday. Fitting it's against the hated Hoosiers.

i thought I saw pics from both sides, but I guess not. Like you said, if you're going to do it, go all-in. I'll be irritated for half the game, but whatever. Overall I like them. One game only.

Re: George Perles-celebration of life
I met George Perles a few times. Socially George Perles was never cheated out of a good time. Professionally he had some missteps (like interviewing for 2 NFL jobs while he was at MSU) but he was personally and professionally very loyal to a lot of people.
When his coaching and AD careers ended, George didn't leave MI retire to AZ, FL or CA. He lived out his life in East Lansing, was present at a lot of MSU events, even got himself elected to the MSU BOT.
