What is your towel rotation like?
How many times do you use the same towel after showering before switching it up? Assuming daily showers, which might be a stretch for some here.

Re: What is your towel rotation like?
I think I use a towel about 4 to 7 times depending on how on top of it I am.

Re: What is your towel rotation like?
I generally use 2 towels a week, on average. Sometimes I'll swap out a little earlier than usual if it's laundry day and there's extra room in the basket.
As a single man, I maintain a rotation of 3 good towels, and 2 worse, less absorbent back ups in case I get lazy with my laundry. Seems to work for me.

One week, so seven uses. I have a morning towel for before work and an evening towel for after workouts. They match.

I bet I could go a few months without changing a towel. I'm very clean when I get out of the shower, and the only thing that happens to the towel is it gets wet and then dries. Same activity it experiences when it goes into the washer and then the drier.

One use before it is washed. This is not negotiable.

I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I've heard some speak and it made me recall a Dilbert comic. I'm impressed.

So you were one of THOSE guys in the dorms that would never change their towels and they would get that musty smell in their rooms that everyone except them could smell.

I like it.
I have rethought this recently. I now go 2 uses. I use, fold and hang so the damp part is on the outside. Hang to dry. Next use, I open up and use the interior part that has is as clean as virgin soil.

I can assure you that the Director of Human Resources where I worked did not appreciate my seemingly eidetic memory for recalling Dilbert comics.

When I lived in Southern IL it was two uses max. It was so humid there that shit never dried. Here, I can go 4 or 5 uses before I notice any mustiness. I also only shower like twice a week unless I’m working outside. older dude hormones just don’t stink like a twenty something.

Once a week. Wife and I used to share a couple of hand towels, but since the covid, we’ve each started using our own hand towels in the primary bathroom. I used to wash almost everything in cold water, but now with the virus, I wash the clothes that have been worn in public in hot water. Less economical, but not taking any chances.

Clean is one thing, but you still shed bacteria and skin when you dry off.

I exfoliate with a loofah. I agree there's some that comes off but very low amount. I also rely on air drying to do some of the heavy lifting for my towels.

Unless you dry your junk and asscrack with your towel (stupid...should be done with a blow dryer), a towel should last at least a week.

A++++
I bet a towel could last 3 weeks. I agree with you and better safe than sorry but one week with a towel just seems sensible.

Summertime I seem to wash it once every 3-4 days and in the winter once a week.

At least we agree on something electrical. Won't even dry my butt with a hotel towel.steveschneider wrote:The Pantry wrote:Unless you dry your junk and asscrack with your towel (stupid...should be done with a blow dryer), a towel should last at least a week.

Re: What is your towel rotation like?
Till it’s gone from the hook on the door. Could be a couple days, could be four days, might be a day. I shower and the door to my bedroom has a towel on the hook. I reach and grab it. Sometimes it doesn’t have a towel on the hook because I think my wife took it to the laundry. So I’m pissed. Then I step out wet, aim for the bathroom carpet while wet, bend down grab a towel out of the cupboard dry myself and put it in the hook again.
Maybe once a year there are no fucking towels in the cupboard so I use that hand towel and do the best I can with it.

Re: What is your towel rotation like?
Unless I’m working out, I don’t shower daily. I used to, I just don’t have the time with a kid.
But a towel usually lasts 4 uses, or once a week.
My MIL washes their towels after every single use. I always thought that was such a waste of water, and the towel was clean that just dried a clean body. But she also doesn’t have any towel hangers. They go straight in the washing machine after they’re used. Weird

How does washing towels waste water? I would contend that the water remains in the watershed. It doesn't magically disappear once it goes down the drain.Dendrobates wrote:Unless I’m working out, I don’t shower daily. I used to, I just don’t have the time with a kid.

I consider it wasting water when you don’t have a well and have to pay for it.

My washer uses 20 gallons of water a load (actually less but I will round up).
My water costs $7.412 per 1,000 gallons (this includes sewage charges).
It cost me 15 cents for the water to wash a load of towels (normally 5 at a time). Roughly $15 a year for the water if I wash my towel after each use.
To steal a line from Boars Head, I will economize elsewhere.

As with most arguments on the internet, I really don’t care but there’s always something said that irks me. The “watershed” comment was that thing so far.
