Was involved in a 480v arc-flash incident at work ~35 years ago. Couldn't see anything but white for a couple minutes. Eyes felt like they had sand in them and rubbing made it worse. Probably wouldn't happen now but company let me drive myself to RO Beaumont. Diagnosed with pitted corneas. Got them flushed and patches over both. Doc reassured me saying corneas are the fastest healing part of the body. Told me to wear the patches and scheduled an appointment with their ophthalmologist the following day. Got picked up and taken home. Left my car at Beaumont.

Was a truly weird experience being blind because of the patches. Had to take my time and feel around just to take a piss...sitting down, of course.

Wife drove me to Beaumont next day. Ophthalmologist dilated my eyes, checked them out, and said I was good to go. Being in the hospital with dilated eyes was sorta bad. Finding my car in the parking lot was worse. Bright sunshine and some snowbanks. Eyelids were worn out before I found it. Got in and put on sunglasses I kept in the thing. Even with them, the 2-3 mile drive home was iffy.

Hadn’t heard of that until your post. Today was my retinal specialist, but next week I see the optometrist for my annual that’s about 4-5 months late. I’ll ask him about it. You’d think they would offer it because this group is big, with offices all over south central lower Michigan, but not Up North.
