When the free money runs out, rent money has to go to rent instead of Walmart, the government stops paying people an extra $300 a week to work, no more stimulus payments, and people are put face to face with across the board price increases on everyday staples of life. My friends own a business and they are willing to pay $18/hr for a dishwasher. That's 4.5x the hourly rate I was paid when I got my first job.

Just asked my wife to make sure I heard him right. She said what he said to us was normally he would pay a position like that $15/hr and he can't even get someone to do it for $18/hr.

Could be true. I know there isn’t no way anyone’s paying a dishwasher $18 an hour in NE MI. At Nexteer in Saginaw a union production worker tops out at around $19hr

Just looked for the area I see postings for Applebees and the likes paying $12-$13/hr for a dishwasher. He's a smart guy he's kept most of his staff over the years and overall they seem happy.

It’s pretty crazy actually. I wonder if we’d be in a full blown recession now if it weren’t for the pandemic. We were 100% into a manufacturing one pre pandemic. Clearly his stupid ass tax cuts weren’t paying for themselves. A year and a half of pandemic could have potentially ran a screen for his dumb ass economy. Pumping massive amounts of money into the economy, jobs lost, etc.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out when people are forced to go back to work, pay rent, bills, buy commodities, etc. obviously a “Biden economy” will be blamed.

I hate burritos. The problem is we accept that large corporations must make a certain amount of money. If not, the consumer must make up the difference. We accept that Bezos and Amazon must make a gazillion. It doesn’t have to be that way. I know they’ve made inroads wage wise. But again, the gap is made up by you and I.

As I understand... inflation is usually from debt (additional money supply) as a percentage of GDP. GDP has been growing since forever. Real wages haven't grown since the supply side 1980's tax stuff started. Income for a certain .1% has been pushed up.
This debt spending isn't enough to drive the inflation thrown out as a scare tactic by right wingers who at least go beyond the "Well how are we going to pay for it" level debt scare tactics.

Also 600,000 people died over the course of a year and even if only a reasonably small percentage of them had jobs, that’s going to leave a gap as people that used to work for shit wages have opportunities for better wage jobs left by those that died leaving no one left to work at the shit wage jobs. The owners of the shit wage jobs would rather blame “socialism” than their own greed and their shit wages because it soothes their nonstop need for grievance
